I’ve heard that it’s legal for me to go
through stop streets and red traffic lights at night. Is this true?
No, this is not true. Even if you believe your life to be in danger or if your children are in the car with you at
night, you would still be breaking the law if you did not stop at a red traffic light or a stop street. We would never advise you to break the law under any circumstances, but it is up to you to decide whether you want to execute
a rolling stop (slowing down without coming to a complete standstill) if you feel unsafe. Always remember, however, that you can be fined, or under the new points system, you will clock up demerit points every time you are caught violating the law.
