9 Weeks
Your baby's eyelids now grow over the eyes. They stay closed until they open
again in the sixth month. Babies have been seen on a scan shying away from
direct light shone onto the belly, even though the light is just a hazy red.
But your baby is aware of the changes between light and dark.
If you're expecting a cute little tummy to sprout, you'll have to wait a
little longer. It's actually your waist that is the first to thicken out.
But the good news is your breasts are going to get bigger!
Before it becomes too apparent that you're pregnant, maybe now's a good time
to tell your employer. After all, plans have to be made for your maternity
leave, either by you or your employer. Find out about your maternity rights.
You are entitled to four months maternity leave. Your employer is not
legally compelled to pay you a salary during this time but check your
contract and negotiate. Very often employers are happy to pay a percentage
of your salary. Make sure you're working in a safe environment. Keep away
from harmful chemicals and radiation.
Get involved in the shopping and planning. You may feel a little
uncomfortable the first time you walk in to a baby goods shop, but believe
me, test driving off-road strollers can be a whole lot of fun. And ask other
dads for their advice on what to get for your baby.
