Pregnancy Guide
We'll help you make sense of your emotional and physical changes and keep you abreast of things happening inside baby's world. Simply follow this guide through the fascinating nine months of your pregnancy. Start hereSelect the week you are in
6 Weeks
Your baby can actually move now because nerve channels and muscles have
linked up. But you won't feel any movement until about 16 to 20 weeks.
Blocks of tissue are forming that will become the vertebrae. The embryo has
gill-like structures that will become the jaw, neck and face. Your baby's
bones are starting to develop. Amazingly, the bone is formed out of
condensed tissue and is laid down over the cartilage. Your baby is now the
size of a pea.
Are you still living on cream crackers because you can't face a cottage
cheese sandwich or a salad? Nausea is caused by your digestive system
reacting to pregnancy hormones. You may be well hungry, but too nauseous to
eat. Don't worry if you're not eating much. Your body is incredibly
resourceful and will make sure that your baby will gets everything it needs.
Just drink plenty of water and take a vitamin and mineral supplement.
Avoid eating undercooked or raw eggs and be aware that pate and ripe soft
cheese can carry the risk of salmonella or listeria infection. Internally
there is much upheaval in your body, but externally there is very little to
see size-wise. Take a picture of yourself now or at the end of each
trimester.
Your other babe is probably getting very fussy about what she feels like
eating, and the sight and smell of certain foods can elicit a violent
reaction. So be kind and postpone braaing for the moment if she can't stand
the smell of meat. Show compassion. Nausea doesn't make for a happy woman.
