 Your growing baby
Your baby is really starting to look human. The little buds are now arms and legs, which acquire slight bends where the elbows and knees will be. Tiny paddles spread at the ends of these limbs where hands and feet will develop. Cartilage forms from tissue for the fingers and toes. Eyes, nose and mouth are now starting to form and, although your baby is still not yet showing family features, there are definitely the first signs of a face. The roof palate of the mouth is forming. Blood vessels connect the foetus to the placenta via the umbilical cord.
 About your body
You may develop aversions to certain foods and to cigarette smoke. It's a good idea to stay away from alcohol because it can interfere with the baby's development. There are lots of opinions on how much coffee you can drink in pregnancy because caffeine is a stimulant. But although there is evidence that caffeine is not the best idea during pregnancy, the odd cup of coffee doesn't seem to be a problem. Another reason to give up coffee is that caffeine has a diuretic effect. Do you really want to go to the loo more often than you already do? Try drinking decaffeinated coffee.
 Your to do list
Now that you're pregnant your gynae (or whoever you choose as your caregiver) is going to become a huge part of your life. You should feel free to discuss anything with him or her. If you start bleeding or spotting, tell your doctor.
 Tips for dad
Even though your partner may not yet look pregnant, you'll know she is. Some women become so moody at this stage that it makes PMS look like kid's stuff. She isn't behaving like this out of choice, so try to understand the vast changes that hormones can wreak on her emotions and moods. It's not easy being her at the moment ? and the moodiness will ease as the hormones settle.
