Every other woman

Chantal finds that being a working mummy is not as easy as it seems.

Do you demand or earn respect?

I have raised my children informing that people earn respect, it shouldn't be demanded no matter what the age.
Pregnancy Guide

We'll help you make sense of your emotional and physical changes and keep you abreast of things happening inside baby's world. Simply follow this guide through the fascinating nine months of your pregnancy.

3 Weeks

 Your growing baby
This week it's going to undergo a phenomenal phase in its development. That little disc is now going to fold over on itself to form a tube. It's hard to believe, I know, but this tube is the beginning of your baby as a thinking, feeling being. This tube will develop into your baby's brain and nervous system. As primitive as it may be, your baby's heart is now beating and blood is being pumped by his own little heart. The upper part of the fold starts to join in the front. These are the beginnings of your baby's face ? a face that you are going to have to wait another eight months to see.
 About your body
By now you have probably confirmed your pregnancy with your doctor. All those pregnancy symptoms you've ever heard about are now going to be happening to you! Remember it's different for everyone so don't panic if you don't have any of the weird symptoms that your girlfriends told you about. Some of the common ones at this early stage are: nausea, needing to go to the loo more often, darkening of the areola around the nipples and veins appearing under the skin on the breasts. At this early time it may seem unreal that you're pregnant because your body hasn't yet undergone much change.
 Your to do list
You've probably heard about taking folic acid as a routine supplement in pregnancy. It's because we don't get enough in our diets and a deficiency can increase the risk of birth defects. If you have not been taking one, go to your pharmacy today. Ask for a supplement with 400 micrograms (that's the recommended amount per day). Carry on taking it for the next three months. You may have started with those dreaded mood swings already. Don't worry, this happens to every pregnant woman. Hormonal changes can cause you to become emotional and moody. If your friends can't tolerate you (and you can barely tolerate yourself), now's a good time to expand you social circle to include other pregnant girls. This way you'll realise that what you're going through is normal. Keeping a pregnancy journal, jotting down your feelings and keeping track of the things you're going through will help you to bond with your baby. Some people address it to their baby as it helps to visualise your baby as a real little person. Although it may seem like the beginning of a very long haul, pregnancy is such a short time in your life and will pass by quicker than you know. Keeping a diary of your pregnancy will remind you of this special time in the years to come.
 Tips for dad
The purchase of a pregnancy test is a bit embarrassing, like those times when you're asked to buy tampons. You'll expect the test to take hours, and you'll be accompanied by a drum roll and blaring trumpets. The test is surprisingly simple, and only requires a little pee from the woman you love. Once the test shows positive, an intense shock sets in as you realise that this parenting thing is actually happening.
