Hamba Kahle Ashley

Ashley Callie, best known for her role as Leone Haines in Isidingo, has died.

The actress was involved in a head on collision on Friday, 8 February. She suffered from severe head injuries, and on Friday 15 February, she succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital.

"It is with sincere regret that the Callie Family confirms that earlier today Ashley passed away as a result of the head injuries she sustained in a car accident," her family said in a statement.

News of her death sent shockwaves through the country, with hundreds of tributes and messages of condolences pouring in from fans and viewers. We're all shocked and saddened by her death, she was a great talent and will be missed both on and off screen.

Callie was born in Johannesburg and received a BA Honours degree in Dramatic Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand.

She spent time in Cape Town doing various commercials, both for the local market and overseas.

But it was with the role of the feisty Leone Haines that Ashley crept into our hearts. She will be sorely missed among her fellow actors.

Her role as the daughter of businessman Barker Haines, earned her an award in 2006 as Best Actress for her role in Isidingo.

Fellow actors and actresses, and even the Producer of the show, Pumla Hopa, were seeing trauma counsellors in the studio on Friday, after the news of the 32-year-old's death. The show has yet to confirm what will happen with Ashley's character. The staff at Women24 are not sure she should be replaced, however, the role of Leone Haines is so big and so strong, it would be hard to cut her out of the storyline.

"Ashley continues to live on in our hearts and minds", said her family. She will forever remain in ours and will be sorely missed.

We cannot imagine what Ashley's family is feeling right now, but we know we're feeling the pain of the loss of a great talent. Hamba Kahle Ashley, may you rest in peace.

May her soul rest in peace we are going to miss that smile. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain :for the former things are passed away

It was a great shock hearing about Ashley's accident, and even more so of her passing. I saw an interview of her, and she grabbed me as a very passionate and caring person, if ever I could invite a person to my table it would be Ashley. I watch the Omnibus on Sunday's and it was with hard watch her, knowing that she has gone to the beginning of her next journey. We will miss her greatly!!!

Ashley was always and will remain a beautiful person. Talented as well as very intelligent, she was a rarity amoungst women, and had a sensitivity that shone through even her "meanest" Lee Haines days. She will be sorely missed.
