It may be the last thing your thinking of after you've just been sick, but reassessing what you're eating during your first trimester can help combat morning sickness.
Article: Petro Rautenbach and Anne Till from Your Pregnancy magazine

Morning sickness is common during the first trimester. This usually eases off around 14 weeks.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can alter your sense of smell, and the over-powering aromas can further aggravate nausea.

  • Avoid food with strong aromas.

  • Eat food at room temperature or cooler; cold food has reduced aromas.

  • Bland foods are usually better tolerated.

  • Eat small, frequent meals.

  • Drink between meals.

  • Try sparkling water with a slice of lemon.

  • Ginger, as well as sour or slightly tart foods, helps alleviate nausea. Add a slice of lemon to hot water or make a weak pot of ginger tea.

  • Control your fat intake. Fatty foods slow down the rate of gastric emptying, so food sits in the stomach for longer and makes you feel more nauseous.

  • Avoid extremely sweet foods. Problems with blood sugar regulation may also aggravate nausea, especially if you suffer from low blood sugar.

  • Easily digestible carbohydrate foods can help to control nausea, try to eat half a piece of toast or plain crackers before getting up in the morning.
