These careers lend themselves to shift work, part-time work or flexi-hours. You may even be away from home for days, weeks or months. Whatever your hours, they probably do not coincide with the "regular" routine of your baby.
Upside
You may get chunks of time to spend with your baby. You may work a roster such as three days on, three days off, or your job might mean that you have the mornings or afternoons free.
Downside
You may be awake when your baby is asleep or your baby may be awake when you're sleeping. The house may be too noisy to get sleep. Your child may suffer separation anxiety if she doesn't fully understand and if your shifts are too irregular which in turn may make her clingy and over-anxious. She needs to know that you love her and will always return to her.
Despite your irregular hours, you and your partner need to get your little one into a routine that works for everyone. Routines are not what others prescribe for you, but what works for you as a family.
Babies are pretty insular and believe, for most of their toddlerhood, that life revolves around them. As long as she knows what to expect next, she should adapt to the arrangement better than you think.
