Sometimes the truth hurts and Paula is finding out the hard way.

It becomes immediately obvious to Paula that Brandt is involved in the hijacking syndicate. "You can't choose who you fall in love with," says Diaan. She suspects that he is using the newspaper as a cover and is using the journalists to do his dirty work.

Paula therefore confronts Brandt with her information. He placates her by giving her a necklace and promises her that he'll never hurt her. "Brandt is a loner without friends, but Paula is an unexpected experience for him," says Steve.

Paula realises that the truth which she is so desperately longing for, must be tied up in the mysterious Kisangani Trust, which regularly comes up in their investigation. In typical Paula fashion, she decides to go snooping around on her own.

And when she sees Brandt with the 'businessman' whom he often meets, it's a brazen sign to her that disaster is on the horizon. It's only when a dejected Paula sits at home worried about Brandt that she realises her necklace is gone. It's then that Brandt knocks her door down...

Brandt is furious when he picks up Paula's necklace at the Kisangani Trust's offices. Brandt thought that the necklace would give Paula peace of mind and convince her that he isn't the person she suspects. But with necklace in hand Brandt knew that Paula was about to unmask him – and would have ruined his plans.
