I've had to take my car in twice because 1st my speedometer stopped working and now the ESP warning lights have come on. The diagnosis from VW on both counts is a wiring issue. Do VWs have wiring issues in general or is it my car specifically.

You haven't specified what make of Volkswagen it is you drive. Unfortunately the more "electronic gadgets" your car has, the greater the chances of something going wrong without you being able to physically detect the fault.
Regards And all cars are susceptible to problems; some people are just luckier than others. I hope your service centre has been able to address your electrical issues. Alternatively, you could get a second opinion from an independent auto electrician.
