Make a coat rack in two hours

This practical and decorative coat rack will help keep the front door tidy.

You will need

  • scaffolding plank
  • matt white PVA paint
  • paintbrush
  • light pink spray paint
  • antique-style clothes hooks
  • roll of thin jewellery wire
  • light green spray paint
  • pink crystal beads
  • pliers or heavy-duty scissors
  • small paper leaves (available from paper and craft shops)
  • white craft paint
  • craft glue

    To make
1 Have a scaffolding plank cut to size. Use a dry paintbrush and PVA paint in matt white to whitewash the plank, then set it aside to dry completely.
2 Spray-paint the clothes hooks light pink and leave to dry.
3 Unroll a length of jewellery wire, twisting it into a flower-like shape. Wrap wire around the centre of the flower to secure. Repeat and make a flower for each hook.
4 Spray-paint the wire flowers light green and leave them to dry completely.
5 Attach the clothes hooks to the plank with a wire flower behind each one, concealing the centre of the flower. If you prefer a fuller appearance, add more pieces of spray-painted wire and thread them through the original wire design.
6 Make a few beaded wire flowers to embellish the design. Thread one bead at a time onto a length of wire, fold the wire double with the bead at the closed end and twist the wire at the other end to form a 15mm stalk. Repeat with four more beads and another bead in the centre. Attach the flower to the design with a further length of wire.
7 Paint the paper leaves with white craft paint and leave to dry. Twist the wire stems of the leaves around the design and secure using craft glue.
