Store it!
Stop climbing over piles of junk! Move that stuff out of the way and get organised.
Store it!
Avoid hoarding items in your home that are not used daily. Move them out to the garage, and store in large, inexpensive plastic washing baskets. Available from the Trading Stores, they can be hooked to the walls to create a much tidier space, and there is still room to park the car. We bought the baskets for R19 each from Jumbo. The hook is R44 and is available at most hardware stores.

Contain it!
Kids' rooms need storage planning to control the risk of its contents overflowing! These items were all sourced from elsewhere in the home.
On the top shelf: Stainless steel lunchbox for coins and stamp collections; magazine filing boxes for drawing paper; and a "sweet tooth" for those midnight snack feasts (previously bought from Santos R75).
Second shelf: Square cookie and fudge tins stripped of labels; Old gift box from Edgars Red Square, for the secret "stuff".
Third shelf: Plastic sandwich boxes for puzzle parts; Old sweet box from Big Blue for pencils; Condensed milk tin (delabelled!) for clips.
Fourth shelf: A toolbox(originally from Mica Hardware R120) for Lego blocks.
Bottom shelf: Old cardboard box painted yellow for balls. The cupboard R2 500 from The Splodge Shop, and a "tooth chair", also a night light R500 from Santos.

Hook it!
With these clever over-the-door hooks you can create extra storage space behind the doors of your house that otherwise are "parked" against the wall and seldom are closed. This one is by Clic R199 from Spirit.
Store it!
Bag it!
Save all those fabulous designer shopping bags, and for a novel storage idea, stick them to the wall in your bedroom with doublesided Velcro tape. This enables you to easily remove the bags for cleaning, or replace them with new ones. This is a great storage solution for all those intimate items we don't like displaying on our bedside tables! White pleated duvet set R729 from Loads of Living.
Store it!
Box it!
The box is still the best storage option available on the market. Awide range of boxes, varying in size, colour and finish, are available at all Hypermarkets, hardware stores, art suppliers and stationery shops. Our favourite stores offering the best range in storage boxes are Santos in Parkview, Johannesburg, and Spirit in Gardens Centre, Cape Town.
Left to right: Large boxes R160 each; Boxes with a metal window for labels R114 each, CD boxes R65 each; Boxes on moveable castors R299; Shoe boxes R114 each – available in wood and clear plastic. Clever Tip: Collect shoe boxes from the stores (they usually throw them away on Mondays!), paint them a solid colour, and label them to suit the contents.
Store it!
Display it!
Don't waste time looking for the sellotape, glue and the millions of pens around the house. Store them on display for all to find! Collect small transparent shopping bags and suspend them from glass doors or windows with suction hooks, to create hold-all storage pockets. Suction hooks are sold in the bathroom section of most hardware stores and hypermarkets. These were bought for R10 for 20 hooks, and the neon bags for R2,99 each from Chinatown.
