Cosmetic companies agree that the lifespan of most make-up products is two years (maximum three). So, if you've been keeping opened products that have expired, separated, changed colour, dried out, broken or have an unpleasant odour, it's time to throw them away. That also goes for stumpy pencils and cloggy mascaras! Give away any products that you've never opened, have no intention of using or have not used for ages... And we'll show you how to create a beautiful new you!
Concealer
Concealer is an essential part of any make-up routine,
particularly for those of us over 30. According to Kerry
Haupt, product manager for Clinique make-up, "Once a
concealer starts to separate and doesn't blend well, it's time
to get rid of it –and treat yourself to something new!"
Concealers come in a wide range of formulations to cover
various flaws, including minor blemishes, such as shadows
around the eyes, mouth, nose and chin.
Foundation
Don't keep foundation that's too light for you, hoping you
might be able to wear it in winter. Rather pass it on to a
friend. If you've had your foundation for more than two
years, it'll start to separate and change colour. Throw it away!
Invest in a long-lasting foundation with sunscreen that will
stay fresh all day, or a foundation and powder in one!
Powder
Collete Aikman of Elizabeth Arden says that powder
formulations have a long shelf life, provided you don't
remove the mesh that covers the powder. Compacts, on the
other hand, have a shorter lifespan because of their creamy
formulation. You need to preserve them by constantly
covering the compact with the clear film supplied. Compact
powders are no good once you notice a film build-up on
top of the powder. When you put a used sponge on top of
pressed powder, you transfer oils and germs from your skin
to the powder.
Eye Pencils
Before you buy eyeliner, test for softness. It's pointless
keeping hard eyeliners that are not doing their job. It's
important that the pencil is soft and waxy so it glides on
without tugging the delicate eye area.
"A standard eye pencil is good for up to a year and
should not be shared with anyone else, as you can transfer
infections," says Rimmel London brand manager for South
Africa, Sally-Anne Walsh.
Mascara
For most women, mascara is the most important item in
their make-up bags. It works wonders by making your eyes
look wider and brighter, drawing attention away from other
imperfections. According to Lancôme's Lyna Murray, "You
should only keep mascara for a maximum of six months."
Mascara has the shortest shelf life due to all the air contact it
has. You can extend your mascara's lifespan by not pumping
the wand to get product.

| i find it so funny that the women of today still act "coy" around the opposite sex. they make it sound as if the men are to blame, but believe me there are quite a few women who go to the gym to hunt the "talent" as well. come on girls, give the men a break for once. they're not all pigs. | ||
