Fruit cocktail

Summer fruit is a beauty booster that literally grows on trees.

Fresh fruit is packed with antioxidants – your allies against nasty free radicals, or groups of atoms that float around your body, impairing the immune system and cells (even causing ageing and cancer).

Don't stop at just eating fruit... turn it into a complete pamper session!

Apples

  • The malic acid in apple juice is an anti-oxidant.
  • The juice can be used as a toner for skin.
  • A cup of apple juice added to your bath cleanses and softens the skin.

    Did you know?
Fresh apple juice can also be used as a hair rinse to control dandruff. Use as a final rinse after shampooing your hair.

    Bananas

  • Bananas are a rich source of protein and natural fats.
  • Massage mashed banana over your skin and leave for a few minutes before rinsing off for a well-nourished skin.
  • Mashed banana also makes a moisturising hair mask – mix it with a teaspoon or two of honey and leave for a few minutes before rinsing out well.
  • Banana can be used on all skin types because it is so mild and non-irritating.

    Did you know?
To take the sting out of sunburn, apply banana peel to burnt areas for a few minutes.

    Pineapples

  • Pineapples contain an active enzyme called bromelin, which cleanses and rejuvenates dull skin.
  • It's also a great skin softener. Use on especially rough skin spots, like your knees, elbows and heels.
  • To soften rough feet, try a pineapple juice foot bath. Soak your feet for 15 to 20 minutes in water mixed with pineapple rings and a glass of pineapple juice, then rinse and follow up with a rich cream.

    Did you know?
Use a slice of pineapple as you would a sponge or loofah to scrub your body in the shower for silky-soft skin.

    Oranges

  • Oranges are a rich source of vitamin C – it's good for the immune system but also great at protecting the skin from harmful UV rays.
  • Vitamin C also helps skin cells to produce collagen – and this we like, because lots of collagen means less wrinkles.

    Did you know?
Mix orange (or any citrus fruit) cells with a small tub of natural yogurt for a fantastic natural scrub.

    Papayas

  • Papayas are rich in natural enzymes and low in calories.
  • They're also good for deep-cleansing your body and ridding your skin of surface debris and dead skin cells.
  • Whirl up a small papaya with 1 teaspoon each of honey and lemon juice in a blender. Apply, leave on your skin for about 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

    Did you know?
The greener the papaya, the higher the natural enzyme content.

    Blueberries

  • Blueberries are rich in vitamins A, C, E and betacarotene, as well as the minerals potassium, manganese and magnesium.
  • They're also very high in fibre.
  • Blueberries contain an abundance of antioxidants.
  • To soften the skin and clear the pores, mix a handful of blueberries with natural yoghurt and leave on your skin for half an hour.

    Litchis

  • Litchis are an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of potassium and vitamin B.

    Strawberries

  • Strawberries are perfect for troubled or spotty skin.
  • They're rich in salicylic acid, an ingredient found in many commercial acne creams.
  • Mash up half a cup of fresh strawberries with a tablespoon of sour cream for a weekly facial mask cleanser.

    Did you know?
Eating fresh berries will also help to whiten your teeth and keep your breath fresh.
