Fix it, fake it .... and flaunt it!
Fix it...
Thin hair Keep it short and beautifully cut.
Insignificant lashes Dye them, but professionally to avoid a mess.
Facial fuzz Waxing, plucking, laser or electrolysis all work on the peach fuzz that migrates from the jawline and on to the neck. Shaving is for men only.
Under-eye bags Short term: rest with cool, damp tea bags over your eyes for 10 minutes. Long term: a plastic surgeon makes tiny incisions in lower eyelids and zaps the fat.
Nose hairs Snip stragglers with scissors. Forget tweezing – it hurts like hell and you risk infection.
Hand wrinkles Trichloroacetic acid peels are ideal for treating backs of hands: they peel away lines and stimulate collagen formation. But if you go this route, remember to use a sunscreen at all times.
Brittle nails Sally Hansen Get Strong Multi-Vitamin Nail Strengthener (R59,95) gives fast results; an alternative is to massage hand cream into your nails to help restore moisture. Try Estee Lauder Extra-Rich Re-Nutriv for Hands and Arms (R300) or Clarins Age Control Hand Lotion (R125).
Coarse facial hair Waxing or electrolysis provides long-term relief from those dark telephone poles that start sprouting on the chin and upper lip.
Cherry angiomas Those little red pinpricks that appear on the chest and other parts of the body can usually be removed with one laser treatment.
Flabby upper arms Stand with your back to a bench or anchored chair. Bend your knees and place your hands on the seat. Then push yourself up and down – start with a set of 10 or 12 and work your way up to three sets of 20.
Sagging breasts Lots of improved plastic surgery solutions leave only discreet scars, and there's always the Wonderbra.
Varicose veins Sclerotherapy may help. A mild chemical solution is injected, which irritates the vein walls and causes them to collapse and wither away. But for veins that can't be treated with sclerotherapy, a mini-phlebectomy may be needed.
Enlarged capillaries Whip out Clarins Concealer and Corrector (R105), also good for blemishes that don't get the message that you're not a teenager any more. To get rid of them for good, zap with a laser, which treats large areas without bruising, so there's minimal recuperation.
Sagging behind Lift that baggy derriere by running up and down stairs – it's cheaper than investing in a Stairmaster. Or, for a quick fix, buy pantihose designed to lift the buttocks. Woolworths and Stuttafords carry them.
Expanding waistline Hands behind head, bend knees slightly apart, then lift, pulsing to the left and then to the right. Sit-ups also help whittle the waist.
Saddlebags Try the 'traffic-light workout' to tone: sitting in the car doing buttock tucks is all it takes.
Rough elbows Gently massage with a pumice stone and follow with L'Occitaine Shea Butter (R160).
Ageing skin UV rays are one of the biggest culprits in the breakdown of the skin's collagen, so grab that SPF now. Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Face and Throat Creme SPF 15 (R295 to R415) or Clarins Extra-Firming Facial Mask (R260) will also help.
Mottled skin To banish the mottled redness of rosacea, try Dermalogica Barrier Repair (R309). Dermatologists say you can control flare-ups by avoiding alcohol, chilli, caffeine, sun and saunas.
Crow's feet You can't erase crow's feet, but you can minimise them. Keep the area moist with eye cream or facial moisturiser. Avoid heavy concealers or powder. Instead, use a pencil, such as Avroy Shlain Coversticks (R55), that match your skin tone.
Rough-textured chest To smooth, use targeted skin-care treatments regularly – try Clarins Beauty Gel (R250) or Innoxa Neck and Bust Cream (R96).
Large pores A little powder helps minimise them. Long-term fix: used daily, Estee Lauder Idealist Skin Refinisher (R265 to R370) paves pores with a matte finish that also hides other imperfections.
Bumpy nails Sally Hansen Get Healthy Multi-Vitamin Nail and Cuticle Creme (R59,95) is mother's little helper when it comes to repairing and rebuilding nails; or buff them.
Dimply thighs Welcome to the wonderful world
of cellulite! Our favourite fixer: RoC Retinol Concentre Anti-Cellulite (R205); also try side leg-lifts and plies.
Age spots They can be removed by ruby laser or bleached by a dermatologist. For an at-home treatment, try Gatineau Intensive Essence (R265) from the whitening range.
Fake it...
Tress it up If you want gorgeous long tresses, either have extensions or go for fake hairpieces – the look is seriously sexy.
Rosy glow For a healthy, natural flush do a creamy blush on to the apples of the cheeks and blend well.
Eye define Define pale eyes and have a line tattooed along the base of the top lashes in dark brown.
Eye openers Eyebrows look like anorexic caterpillars? Fill them in with a firm, slim shadow brush dipped in brown powder shadow.
Define jaw For a slack jawline, dust dark-brown powder under the jaw and chin and blend in well, but only do this at night.
Full, shiny hair From hair-meister Frederic Fekkai, who has salons in Manhattan and Beverly Hills: follow a moisturising shampoo like Wella Vivality with the Wella Vivality conditioner applied to hair ends only. Or try Clinique's fabulous Simple Hair Care System (available mid-May R95 to R115), guaranteed to leave you with seriously gorgeous hair. Towel-dry and then mix gel (for body) with finishing cream (for smoothness) and rake through.
Sculpted nose To correct a drooping nose: shade right on and under the tip with a darker cream concealer or eye shadow in light brown.
White teeth Lipstick in shades with blue tones help – orange and brown bases magnify the yellow.
Wide-awake eyes If eyelids begin to droop, frame eyes with liner and leave the rest of the area bare or dusted with white, grey or a natural shade. Perfect lip line Make-up artists recommend natural-coloured pencils; we love MAC Spice Lip Pencil (R75). Frame lips and seal tiny crinkles by outlining your lips fully with the pencil then adding lip gloss.
Decollete of note Low-cut tops require serious cleavage – brush a bronzing powder in your cleavage for maximum effect; try Revlon Skinlights (R45,95 to R149,95) or MAC Sheer Shimmer Powder
