Hot lipstick trends for winter 2008 are taking it's cues from the same eras and influences that are influencing 2008's winter fashion, 1930s and 1940s glamour girl and Art Deco babes.

Trend 1: Bright red lips
Glam up ladies and slap on your red lippy. Bold, bright red lipstick channelling the seductive 1930s and 1940s screen goddesses. Wear it in shades ranging from tangerine hues through to deeper reds, with fire-engine red still the firm favourite.

How to wear it: With sleek, glamourous hair, tond of black eyeliner and mascara and sexy stilettos.

Trend 2: Dark lips
Be brave and bold girls. Go dark for winter with daring, bold lips in shades of dark colours. Choose from burgundy wine shades through to blues and blacks.

How to wear it: With plenty of attitude as it's not any easy look to pull off, particularly in it's more out-there forms. Try the deep burgundy shade for the evening for bold elegance, while unconventional dark colours can add rockstar attitude to an otherwise demure ensemble. Becareful of wearing dark coloured clothing when trying this trend, you don't want to look like a goth.

Berry-stained lips
Go for the berry or plum-stained matte lock for understated glam. Choose berry colours of deep reds,plums, blueberry and burgundy.

How to wear it: The only real way to pull off this look is to keep the rest of your makeup minimal. Berry-stained lips work best with a fresh face and big eyes. To achieve the wide-eyed look try a touch of white eyeliner into your corners of your eyes to open up them up, and a dusting of pink or peachy blush for a flushed outdoorsy look.

Nude and pale pink lips
Go for that natural look with neutral coloured lipsticks. Stick with nudes and pale pink colours.

How to wear it: With nude lips you can compliment the natural look with the all-over fresh-faced natural look. For that dewy-skin look add a bit of illuminator cream (try MAC strobe cream) to your cheekbones. For a dramatic look pair your pale lips with sex-kitten smoky eyes with charcoal liner smudged all around the eyes.
