I have a hair appointment today. Most other women would be excited at that prospect, however I am dreading it.
The idea of putting the control of my entire look into the hands of some flapping, peroxided, long nailed queen really makes me nervous.
My fear started at the tender age of 8 during a routine nit inspection at school. I was sent home with a letter indicating that I was infected, required immediate quarantine and needed to be de-loused.
And so my mother washed and combed my long locks and then proceeded to "trim" them into a neat Audrey Hepburn styled bob. I don't think either of us has ever cried as much since. Needless to say I have since had a few lingering issues with regards to having my hair cut.
That was until I met Jon. Jon is young and trendy but with the charm of a gentleman that will put any little old lady at ease when it comes to sitting in front of the mirror.
He will listen, and advise without being pushy or rude and when it comes to the actual cut he will talk one through it as a doctor would to one just about to go under the knife. Problem number one sorted as we have a capable stylist.
Next the big decision is whether to go back to that bob of ages, or to continue on the journey to longer lengths. Victoria Beckham has just brought the bob, or "Pob" as is it called in her case, back and it is definitely a trend of the season.
I have managed to grow out my Goth-cum-punk short fringe and now am heading more towards the sophisticated longer fringed rock-chic look (think Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada). After all punk is not dead and rock glam is to be seen all over the international runways.
And as for colour, well black is the new black, as we have been told by those in the know, and we shall spice that up with some warm red tones just in time for autumn.
Hopefully with my new do all I will need to do is to start my hunt for my winter wardrobe and I will be set to tackle the new season in style.
Mary is 21-years-old, and works at Diesel. She has recently decided to start dressing like a real girl, heels and all, whilst still keeping her alternative edge – the black hair and lip ring. She hates the concept of fashion (i.e. having a bunch of people decide that something is cool so that the rest of us can follow) but really can't stop herself from loving it and pursuing a career in it.
What's your new look for the season? Or have you found a timeless style and stuck with it? Share the tales of your tresses below.

| After many years of going short, then longer, experimenting with perms & home boxed colours of all shades, doing the bob thing, you name it.. I have finally gone full circle & gone back to where I started... long & straight but just with added highlights for interest. So now I like how I actually looked when I was 18, and it's working for me. | ||
