Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Elegance and glamour were the order of the day as the stars strutted in striking shades of red at the hottest Hollywood event of the year – the 80th Academy Awards Show.
Jenna says: Anne Hathaway looks like greek goddess in her draped red Marchesa gown. Love the flower detail! Huge improvement from last year's Valentino bow dress.
Fran says: Love this! Love this! Love this! Anne is a regal princess in this one-shouldered crimson number. The soft draping of the fabric accentuates her figure perfectly.
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Heidi Klum never disappoints on the red carpet and this year was no exception! The supermodel looked ravishing in her red taffeta Haute Couture gown by John Galliano. Love her hair... the big bun shows off her gorgeous chandelier earrings to perfection.
Fran says: Another fabulous red number! Heidi Klum wins yummy mummy of the year again. And she'd donned her dress for a good cause – it is being auctioned as part of the Heart truth campaign to raise awareness of women's heart disease.
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: All hail the queen! Helen Mirren looks absolutely radiant and regal in her custom-made ruby red satin George Chakra gown with a Swarovski crystal bolero. Just love this look on Helen, the simple hair and siren-red lips are a winner.
Fran says: Another diva in red. I hope I look like her when I grow up... she is simply flawless.
We give her a 9/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Katherine Heigl is fast becoming a red carpet darling. She looks positively gorgeous in this bright red Escada gown. Love the shoulder detail. A real Hollywood siren with red lips and 1940's hair. Glam!
Fran says: What a sweetie pie! Katherine Heigl made a wise choice when she slipped into this slim-fitting one-shoulder bodice dress. I love how all the celebs have been so brave with red! It definitely paid off.
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Marion Cotillard won the award for Best Actress, and certainly a winner in the style stakes. I just love, love, loved her intricately detailed custom-made Jean Paul Gaultier gown. She looks like a modern-day mermaid with the scale-esque detailing. Absolutely fabulous.
Fran says: I loved her in La Vie en Rose and I love her this white Jean Paul Caultier gown! Certainly no regrets!
We give her an 8/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: I just love Cameron Diaz's effortless style on the red carpet. She looks flirty and fun in this pale pink bustier Dior gown by John Galliano. Love the relaxed ponytail hairstyle and golden tan, and how Cam always looks like she is having fun.
Fran says: She certainly is having fun! Pink is a brave colour for the red carpet, but Cameron certainly pulls it off. Interestingly, the fishtail skirt is clearly a popular choice this year amongst all the celebutants.
We give her a 8/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Renée Zellweger once again wore a Carolina Herrera gown. Loved the silver hand embroidered frock with the sexy slit on the leg. But the dress would like even better with some curves, eat a sandwich girl!
Fran says: Miss Zellweger certainly added the sparkle to this year's red carpet. I'm still not convinced about her new short hairdo though – she's definitely looked more glamorous in the past. And I totally agree with Jenna... except a super-size burger might be more appropriate!
We give her a 6/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says:Wow! Keisha Whittaker, wife of Oscar Winner Forrest Whittaker, looked amazing in her silvery-white beaded creation. Love the tulle layers... frothy fun!
Fran says: Another celeb who selected a strapless gown, despite the bad weather. Keisha Whitaker looks amazing in this jewelled gown, bringing a lovely lotta bling bling to the red carpet.
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: I always am excited to see what Cate Blanchett choose to wear and she didn't disappoint. I loved her Dries van Noten royal blue dress. So flattering and showed off her baby bump beautifully. Love the Lorraine Schwartz jewels which added some quirkiness to the outfit. Yummy mummy!
Fran says: Cate Blanchett wore a flattering royal blue Dries van Noten halter-neck gown. The beaded flower detailing on the skirt and golden necklace add the perfect glam sparkle. Another mom-to-be... preggers was certainly the hottest look on the red carpet this year.
We give her a 7/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: I am just loving Amy Adams' style. She channels old Hollywood glam with her simple dresses and fab accessories. Love the emerald green with her red hair. She is definitely one to watch
Fran says: The Enchanted star looks simply enchanting in this emerald green Proenza Scholuer dress. The gold mesh purse is a dainty little Art Nouveau accessory by Fred Leighton. Love it.
We give her a 8/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Wow! Jennifer Garner is a knockout in her Oscar de la Renta fishtail gown. The strapless dress shows off her toned arms and shoulders to perfection. Mrs Affleck wore some major Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds and a sleek updo hairstyle. Glam!
Fran says: Jennifer Garner was a sure hit at the Oscars this year in a gorgeous black Oscar de la Renta strapless gown. The flamenca-style skirt is playful and fun, and she has accessorised perfectly!
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Double Oscar winner Hillary Swank looks flawless as usual in her clinging Atelier Versace black gown. Gorgeous lace detailing, very feminine but a few womanly curves would make this dress even better...
Fran says: Hillary is one actress who adds her own personal charm to the Oscars time and time again. Not being a nominee this year, Hillary opted for a more modest black one-shoulder gown, but this certainly didn't mean that she faded into the background...
We give her a 8/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Penelope Cruz looked amazing at last years awards and this year she looked just as good! Karl Lagerfield designed this Chanel Haute Couture navy feather embroidered gown just for her. Love the simple hair and jewelry, but I prefer her in lighter colours.
Fran says: I certainly preferred the dress that Penelope wore to last year's Oscars, but this dress is just as effortlessly elegant... clearly Penelope has a thing for feathers.
We give her a 7/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Loved this shimmering yellow Roberto Cavalli dress on Kelly Preston! The strapless dress was very flattering and love the gold accessories. Go Mrs Travolta!
Fran says: Kelly Preston is a gorgeous ray of sunlight! Despite the sombre tone overshadowing the Oscars this year Kelly has donned this gorgeous yellow frock and scared all the baddies away! Fabulous!
We give her a 10/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Wasn't so sure about mom-to-be Jessica Alba's dress for the Oscars. The deep-purple feathered Marchesa gown was kind of frumpy and I didn't like the hair at all.
Fran says: I don't know Jenna... I think this gown suits Jessica perfectly. The colour is perfect for her skin tone, and the soft chiffon and empire line flatter her preggy belly beautifully. I do also think that she could have been a little more adventurous with her hair, but overall I think it's a winner.
We give her a 6/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: I am in two minds about Kerri Russel's dress. Loved the champagne colour of the strapless organza bustier Nina Ricci dress, but Kerri could have done with a spot of self tan to pull off this colour. The bustier isn't very flattering on the boobs... it doesn't look natural to me.
Fran says: This dress is simply middle-of-the-road. The nude shade of this dress is certainly not flattering, and although the shape reveals Kerri's tiny waist the dress could have done with some delicate bead or lace detailing of sorts.
We give it a 5/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Poor Jennifer Hudson can't seem to get it right at the Oscars. After last year's huge fashion miss, she missed again this year in this white detailed Roberto Cavalli gown. Don't think it's a flattering look on this buxom beauty.
Fran says: Oh, no Jennifer! It's one thing to accentuate your assets, but another thing to grotesquely malform them. I love the cut of the skirt.. the way is drapes around her hips... but the empire line squashing her bust is a big no no!
We give her a 4/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Mommy-to-be Nicole Kidman toned her look down this year in her custom black Balenciaga gown which I thought was a little boring. But she went all out on the bling! She wore a 1,399-carat diamond necklace designed by L'Wren Scott. Cute little baby bump!
Fran says: Nicole looks as though she has stepped out of a gothic ghost film... dull, drap and full of despair. The black gown hangs limply and the low bun screams "I'm a frumpy maid!". The diamonds are gorgeous, but where's the sexy Nicole we all love?
We give her a 4/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Saoirse Ronan was a Best Surporting Actress nominee for her role in Atonement, and looked very age appropriate for the Oscars, she obviously got her mom to help her. Her gown was cute and I liked the detailing on the capped sleeves.
Fran says: Did she steal her dress off the set?
We give her a 5/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Ellen Page, this year's youngest Best Actress nominee, wore a black vintage Jean Louis Scherrer dress to the awards and looked a real frump. She obviously was trying to play it safe in black but as for the hairstyle... I think it was an attempt at a 1920's Great Gatsby look. Between the hair and the outfit she looked like an angry teenage goth gone wrong. So not a good look.
Fran says: Shame Jenna, give the girl a break. I definitely feel that Ellen should have got a professional's advice before getting dressed for the Oscars (and if she did she should fire the woman!), but she's still young... hopefully we should be seeing much more of her talented ass on the red carpet, which should give her more opportunities to find her unique iconic style.
We give her a 3/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Diablo Cody's animal print dress is practically idential to a dress a pregnant Gwen Stefani wore to the Grammy Awards in 2006.... hmmm, very brave. The dress is fun but I don't think fitting for such a glamorous event.
Fran says: Diablo Cody sure opted for the bravest looks on the red carpet this year. The Juno screenwriter sported an animal print gown with skull-and-crossbone earrings. As I said, brave... but certainly not a hit. Oh, and interesting tattoo Diablo.
We give her a 3/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Julie Christie has been looking divine on the red carpet so did the women fire her stylist for the Oscars? Bad move. She looked totally under dressed in her mid-length dress and as for the sheer pink gloves and shoes, well there are no words.
Fran says: This outfit was definitely a fashion flop. Julie Christie certainly played things down in this dull cocktail dress, and might have gone unnoticed if it wasn't for those horrid glove. They look like little pink sausage skins! Eugh!
We give her a 1/10
Oscars 2008: Fashion hits & misses
Jenna says: Tilda Swinton needs a stylist, badly! She wore this black one-shouldered Lanvin creation that was likened to a garbage bag. The women also needs to make an effort with her hair and makeup. Shocking.
Fran says: Words escape me... no, wait, I have a word... bad, bad, bad!
We give her a 0/10

| Loved Ren?Zellweger's hair and dress and feel comments about her weight are unfair. She always looks petite and slim. And if she has to eat a supersize burger, Keisha Whittaker should eat a whole cow! | ||
