Oscar fashion flops

The Oscars red carpet has seen it's fair share of fashion flops and disasters over the years and some of them have been simply unforgettable.

Cher's outfit to the 1986 Oscar Awards was a real fashion flop. The midriff bearing getup by Bob Mackie was totally inappropriate for such an elegant event and don't even get me started on the thing on her head. What a shocker.

Lizzy Gardiner a stylist who won the 1995 Oscar for Best Costumes for Pricilla Queen of the Desert should have known better than to wear this number. Lizzy designed the 254 Gold American Express cards dress herself. What was she thinking?

The normally stylish songstress Celine Dion made a real fashion flop at the 1999 Oscar Awards in this white John Galliano lady tuxedo. It would have been stylish but the jacket was worn back to front. And as for the huge fedora hat and shades!

Angelina Jolie wasn't always the super-glam mom she is today. At the 2000 Oscars when she won for best supporting actress for Girl, Interrupted everyone was talking about how she snogged her androgynous stepbrother and how gothic she looked with long black straight hair, kohl-rimmed eyes in a jet black Versace dress. Weird.

This 'creation' worn by wacky Icelandic singer Bjork at the 2001 Oscars won her the top spot in the worst dress hall of fame. And as if wearing a ruffled 'swan' wasn't bad enough, Bjork went even further and accessorised the outfit with a egg handbag. There are no words.

Kate Hudson looked like a victorian bride gone wrong at the 2001 Oscars. Her lilac fringed capelet and dress by Stella McCartney for Chloe just didn't suit this vibrant young starlet. Fashion flop delux.

Gwyneth Paltrow normally looks flawless on the red carpet so her 2002 Oscar getup was a real shock. Gwyn wore this gothic-inspired number by Christian Lacroix amd boy did it flop. The top was see-through and she didn't wear a bra and as for the hairstyle... no comment.

Uma Thurman seemed to be channeling her inner Heidi at the 2004 Oscars with this milk- maid inspired frock by Christian Lacroix. Did Uma think she would be yodelling and milking the cows at the glam event? Total flop.

It's amazing how Meryl Streep who played an über-stylish women in the hit The Devil wears Prada could get it so wrong? At the 2007 Oscars she wore a black Prada coat and duchesse satin skirt and with an emerald-green belt and gigantic necklace that looked like lego. Just a disaster.

Hollywood newbie Jennifer Hudson is probably cursing her stylist. At the 2007 Oscars she won the Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls but she sure didn't win in the fashion stakes. At the last minute her stylist put her in this Oscar De La Renta chocolate gown with a python bolero. Her frock got totally slated and put a damper on her special night.

Charlize Theron is never afraid to try a new style but she shouldn't have done it at the 2007 Oscars thats for sure. Charlz wore this olive number by Dior and well it didn't quite work. That huge bow on her shoulder made the whole thing looked unbalanced. Maybe she should have gotten a tannie from Benoni to make her a nice little rok.
