My thoughts...

My thoughts on the negative vibes we are all feeling with power cuts and the like, here are a few lessons from a five year old for those who may have forgotten.

1. A power outage is an opportunity to use your torch to have an adventure around the house and perhaps even the garden.
2. A partial frog skeleton is really fascinating (I saw one lying somewhere, mentioned it and then had to promise to go back and get it, by which time there was not much left – the discussion was then about WHAT ate the bits off).
3. You believe you can build an entire machine in the garden out of stuff you have around the house to transport you to the land of mo.
4. A lava lamp is a must have – regardless of what is in style.
5. You can try to persuade your mom that the punishment of no TV in the morning following the cup throwing episode the night before should be forgotten because "we've been over that, that was yesterday."
6. The first lesson where you learn the fairy thing (flapping arms and all that) in ballet is a really exciting time, regardless of your lack of grace.
7. Carbon paper can be like magic.
8. Maps offer a whole new world even if you don't understand them.
9. If you haven't had enough cuddles, you are entitled to complain loudly and ask for one. The same goes for attention in general – ask for it AND expect the person giving it to enjoy the experience.
10. If your wand knocks over a glass, you can honestly say that "I never touched it."

So if the markets or the economy or (in SA) the power cuts are getting you down, you can always try to look at things differently.

Of course an unhealthy fascination with carbon paper may lure the men in white coats to come and lock you up, but...you get the point! Feel free to interpret these for your own situation...
