I had to go through that process recently whether to apply for a certain job or not. My excuse was, I am pregnant and do not need the stress right now. The next excuse obviously will be I want to spend more time with my kid (the excuses continue...) The big issue is: how badly do you want to be on top of your game and still have a healthy family life?
Most of the decisions, such as:
(1) Be a stay at home moms
(2) Not applying for that position
(3) Not study for that MBA etc.
WE MAKE THEM. I am yet to meet a guy who decided not to do the above mentioned things because they (with partner) are planning to have a family or expand their family. I do not see how your partner will suddenly expect you to bring your career life to a halt now that you met him/ married him.
There will definitely be lots of sacrifices you have to make along the way in order to have this work-life balance. You will not see your kids as much as you would like to, you need help (Eve) around the house. Yes, there will be some important milestones we will miss in our kids' lives as we are busy pursuing our own dreams.
I just do not want to end up being a grumpy wife and mom because I supported everyone around me in achieving their dreams while I ignored mine. It is my choice after all!
