Bertina joined New Clicks in July 2006 and has made a major contribution in strengthening the group's HR processes and implementing people management strategies across the business. She is also a member of the New Clicks group executive committee along with David Kneale (chief executive officer), Keith Warburton (chief financial officer) and Michael Harvey (managing director, Clicks).

An experienced human resources professional, Bertina is responsible for compensation and benefits, talent development, employee wellness, skills development, corporate social investment programmes as well as driving transformation in the group.

An admitted attorney, Bertina holds a B Proc degree from the University of the Western Cape and an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town.

After spending eight years with Transnet, she managed her own consultancy practice before joining Sea Harvest in January 2002 where she was director of organisational effectiveness. She then moved on to take up the position of general manager for Shell SA Energy in May 2004.

I'm inspired by seeing others grow into their full potential, especially if I know that I had some small role to play.

Q. How do you stay ahead of the pack?

I surround myself with exceptional team members with positive attitudes. I keep abreast of the latest thinking and developments of all areas related to my work or interests. I dedicate time to my family, friends and spiritual growth.
