But there is something different and special about Leo, he wrote books while he was in Poland, and named the female character after the woman he loved, Alma.
Meet Alma Singer. Her parents names her after the heroine in her mother's favourite book, The History of Love, fifteen-year-old Alma wants to be a naturalist. She collects tips in notebooks she titles How to Survive in the Wild.
Alma and her younger brother, Bird, are both coping with the recent death of their father, as is Alma's mother, a translator who receives a surprising commission from a mysterious stranger to translate The History of Love into English. Alma then starts out on a quest to find the mysterious stranger as well as the real-life Alma who may have inspired the novel's author.
This book is a captivating story of the power of love, of loneliness and of survival. While we experience human emotion almost first hand, from the incredible joy to the unbearable sadness, it's certainly not a tragedy. It's a book about plain, simple love. And it's one you MUST read!
