QUESTION
I can't keep my room tidy - you should see what my desk at work looks like. It's weird though because I'm very neat on myself... never a hair out place, never a wrinkle in my shirt... Think it's psychological?
ANSWER
Situational disorganisation means you are usually fairly organised, but something has happened to cause you to go off track for a period of time (change in marital status, moving, new job, having a baby, etc). If you have help to bring things back or if you make time and do it yourself you should be able to maintain a sense of order.
Chronic disorganisation (when you try to get organised, but can never maintain it) is usually associated with AD/HD, Bipolar, Autism, Obsessive Compulsive Dirsorder, etc. so if you have never been tested for either of these neurological conditions, you might want to browse the internet to see if you display some characteristics in either of these (or consult a medical practitioner).
If you are chronically disorganised it is really difficult to implement and maintain systems on your own - you'd need a buddy or professional to help you stay focused and stay on track.
Visit our website www.getorganised.co.za and read some of our past newsletters on how to better organise your space and your desk.
Once you have decluttered and set up systems that suit you, maintaining organisation becomes a whole lot easier.
