QUESTION
We are retiring to a farm in the Limpopo District. This means downscaling to a large degree. I have quite a collection of books, tea sets (Royal Albert, one silver tea and coffee set) and other items, especially pictures beautifully framed. I would like to sell these as there could be something valuable for the buyer and/or collector. How do I go about it? Thanks, Dawn
ANSWER
The easiest and quickest way to get rid of these treasures, is to contact your local auctioneer and have them itemise and collect what you have, sell and pay you a comission. It's hassle free, they set the prices and you can get on with your new season in Limpopo.
Alternatives include:
* Running a garage sale (in my experience these are slow, not well attended and a lot of work).
Advertise in your community paper, letter boxes, local library, etc.
* Loading items for sale on sites like gumtree.co.za or ebay. Check these sites for similar items to those you want to sell to get an idea of what to charge and then advertise them with a photo.
