QUESTION
I have a seven month old baby and I wanted to follow an eating plan that discourages meat (whether red or white) and as well as carbs. I will only be taking fruits and vegetables. Is this healthy and whether the detox process will not affect my child through the breast milk.
Regards
Noko
ANSWER
Hi Noko,
Going on a detox is not unhealthy for you but it may affect the production of your breastmilk.
However, if you do this responsibly ie: you eat often and a wide range of vegetables then it should be fine.
Leaving meat out of your diet is not unhealthy but leaving out protein completely is. I suggest you take in protein but you can do this in the form of tofu and dairy - if you are looking to lose weight then go for low fat or fat free dairy.
I do suggest you also eat some vegetables that contain carbohydrates, like sweet potato and butternut, you do need energy as your body is working hard to produce your breastmilk and you need energy to look after the little one - it's tiring work!
Stay away from processed foods and fizzy drinks and maintain a healthy, balanced diet. Start a little exercise too and you can build on that.
Good Luck!
