Given the often difficult and sensitive nature of sexual abuse, many victims resist reporting the incident and thus numerous sexual offences go undetected. This happens even more frequently with victims of female sexual abuse.
Consequently, victims of female sexual abuse often do not have a space to tell their story. A study is therefore being conducted on the experiences, perceptions and lives of victims of female sexual perpetration.
This research is being conducted for the purposes of a PhD degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. The results of the study will allow for a greater understanding of female sexual abuse in South Africa and will also provide a foundation for future research in the area.
