10 tips for fuss pots
Is your toddler a picky eater? Just can't him to eat those nutritional vegetables? Here are ten tips that will get your child to indulge...
  • Eat together once a day. Toddlers enjoy the social side as much as the food.

  • Toddlers and children love to help in the kitchen – and to eat their own creations, so pop him up on the counter and let him get mixing.

  • The less junk food you have in the house, the less they'll eat- so keep it for high days and holidays.

  • He may like to share from your plate what he won't eat from his own – it's a good way to introduce new tastes and textures.

  • Grated carrots in a bolognaise sauce, finely chopped spinach on a pizza, grated courgette in a macaroni cheese. There's more than one way to hide a vegetable.

  • Offer small portions. He can always come back for seconds.

  • Many toddlers prefer finger foods to mushy mash, veg and meat- so opt for baby sweetcorn, carrots, fish fingers and chips, etc.

  • Babies love to dip. Try avo dip, cottage cheese, or even peanut butter, with a variety of healthy dippers like lightly steamed vegetables, cheese straws, or strips of chicken or meat. For dessert, try cut up fruit dipped in yoghurt.

  • Shop together. A toddler who's allowed to select the fruit and choose drumsticks over chicken thighs is more likely to eat what he's chosen.

  • Compensate. It doesn't matter too much where your child gets his nutrients from, as long as he gets them. If he flatly refuses to eat butternut offer orange fruit or raw carrots. If he doesn't like meat, make sure he gets his protein from fish, eggs, cheese.
