Mimi's secrets
Days of Our Lives has hidden a skeleton in Mimi’s closet, and she pitches a fit about her crazy family after they try to bury the bones in the back yard. If only she knew the truth!
Mimi’s dead guy just won’t stay down in Days of Our Lives. He’s been rattling his way back into the spotlight ever since he dropped in on her while she was trying to break out of the church basement on 19 October. On Tuesday 17 November, Mimi (Farah Fath) got Bonnie and Conner to admit that “Mr Bojangles” was her dear old dad, David Lockhart, after she caught them trying to bury him in the back yard. And we still haven’t seen the last of him.
Fed up with her family’s nonsense, Mimi drags the bag of bones down to the police station on Thursday 19 November. But even Roman isn’t having any of it when she tries to pass off corpse-snatching as something those crazy Lockharts do for fun. “Mimi, I’m well aware of your family, but a skeleton? Come on. What the hell is this really all about?” he asks, putting his Cluedo training to good use.
Mimi the liar tells Roman she doesn’t know who the body belongs to, but she thinks a DNA test might help them find out, and Roman reluctantly agrees to bring Nick Fallon in on the case to DNA-test the bones.
Those loopy Lockharts
Poor Mimi. It’s all a bit much – her deadbeat dad is dead for real, her gangster big brother’s in jail for kidnapping, her little brother just broke out of reform school, and her drunken mom has her hand in everyone’s pockets. She flips out over dinner with Max and moans, “I’m getting this really sick feeling that before too long, I’m gonna be the only one in my family who isn’t locked up . . . Patrick’s in jail and Conner’s right behind him. And now it looks like my mom may have murdered my dad. How screwed up is that?”
She warns Max that she’s as bad as the rest of her family. “Last night, when I couldn’t sleep, I thought about reburying the bones in my yard and never saying a word about it to anyone ever again. How sick is that? My own father!”
Oh Mimi, it’s not going to get better ...
Spoiler Alert!
On Wednesday 9 December, Nick confirms that the bones he tested belonged to Mimi’s father. Mimi is devastated because, while she believed her dad had really abandoned his family, she’d always hoped he’d come back one day – alive, of course, not stuffed into a confederate overcoat, cemented into a church cellar. “He wasn’t much of a father. Not around a lot. Kind of irresponsible, I guess, but I
always felt that he loved me, and I loved him,” she tells Max. “I knew he was out there somewhere – ‘out west’, my mom always told me – and so I fantasised about what he was doing, and thought maybe someday I’d see him again, and he’d be proud of me, and he’d be sorry for all the years that he was away.”
The truth will come out
Reluctantly, Mimi tells Abe the truth, and thinks she’s going to have to watch one of her loved ones go on trial for her dad’s murder – until Wednesday 23 December, when Roman tells her Bonnie’s confessed to the killing.
Outraged, Mimi confronts her mom, only to realise Bonnie’s lying through her teeth when she says, “I killed him. Your father’s dead, and I’m responsible, honey. It was me, all me, and prison is exactly where I belong. I deserve what I’ve got coming, so why bother to fight it? Do the crime, do the time. It is me. It is me, all me. Me!” Anyone else think she overplayed her hand there just a smidge?
The thing is, mommy Bonnie wasn’t lying about a lot of what she told Mimi. Yes, David Lockhart did come home drunk one night “reeking of booze and cheap perfume”. And yes, Bonnie confronted him about the lipstick on his shirt, and the fact that he spent the money she earned for the family on drink and women. Yes, that was the night he raised his hand to her for the first and last time, but that doesn’t mean she kiled him. There’s a missing piece of the puzzle Bonnie’s hiding. Remember the gold ring on the skeleton’s finger? Nick finds blood on it, and it isn’t Bonnie’s ... or David’s ...
The terrible truth
Everything comes crashing down on Friday 8 January 2010, when Nick tests the ring and turns up another Lockhart’s blood. Bonnie wasn’t the only family member David attacked. So we have three suspects: Patrick, Conner and Mimi. Patrick and Conner are strapping lads and good suspects. But could delicate little Mimi have done it? We’ve never seen her give it a moment’s thought, and we know she doesn’t handle guilt well – remember her abortion story? ?
Dye another day
When selecting our cover picture, we had a back-and-forth debate about which Mimi we’d see over the next few weeks – bleachy blonde, honey blonde, brunette, or black widow. Actress Farah Fath has always played with her hair in Days, but lately Mimi’s dyed her hair more often than Stefano’s come back from the dead. We’re about to see her go really dark, but by January she’ll be blonde again. Farah told Soap Opera Weekly, “Right before New Year’s Eve I was looking at pictures of myself as a blonde. I looked at my sister, Tori, and said, ‘I’m better as a blonde, aren’t I?’ We talked about it. I didn’t know if I was going to dye it back or not, because I really liked the dark hair, and I kind of miss it. But I realised blonde hair suits me better. It just kind of pops. So I’m a blonde again.”
About her departure from the show next year, Farah told Soap Opera Weekly, “I’ve only played one part my whole life. I’ve never played a different character. Leaving is not about trying to be famous.” After Days, Farah tried out for a few roles before moving from California to New York with Tori and landing the part of Gigi in US soapie One Life To Live. She’s now dating her One Life co-star John-Paul Lavoisier.
