Days of Our Lives
What you'll see: If 2008 was about breaking up, 2009 is about making up. Bo and Hope, Shawn and Belle and John and Marlena find their way back to one another, so this coming year's going to be a lot happier. But for Salem's big liars Sami, Mimi and Chelsea, it's also the year their sins catch up with them. The biggest news of all is that Stefano is back. Kind of.
Must-see moment: Marlena and John marry in Italy in August and run into Stefano at an Italian clinic.
Shockers: Alex North goes over a cliff during a life and death struggle with John and Marlena, Abe walks in on Lexie and Tek in bed together, Jack walks in on Jen and Frankie's wedding, Patrick and Bo don't know which of them is Hope's baby daddy, Shawn hooks up with a teen hooker, Mimi and Belle wind up pregnant with each other's babies, Mimi finds out she murdered someone and forgot about it! Victor keeps Philip locked up in the mansion, and Sami falls pregnant with a rape baby.
Days welcomes: Sami's sexy new neighbour EJ Wells (James Scott) who is part of a deadly Salem dynasty, Patch (Stephen Nichols) and his wife, Bo's sister Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) return with their daughter Stephanie (Shayna Rose and Shelley Hennig) and Jack in tow, we get a new Shawn (Brandon Beemer) in June, teen hooker Willow Stark (Annie Burgstede) causes a scandal, nerdy Nick Fallon (Blake Berris) romances Chelsea ... and Billie! Jay Kenneth Johnson returns as Philip in a shocking moment. Stefano returns, too ...
Farewell to: The role of Shawn is recast in June when Jason Cook leaves, Jack and Jen also leave in June, Philip leaves town briefly in July along with Carrie, Austin and Frankie, and Mimi flees Salem in November.
Villain watch: Keep an eye on Victor and Patrick, who’s working hand in secret-black-glove with the mysterious new bad boy in town, EJ Wells.

AMC fans already know James Scott, who plays EJ Wells on Days, as Ethan Cambias. He's been on screen in South Africa from October 2008.
Generations
What you'll see: 2009 starts with a bang at a glamorous New Year's Eve awards ceremony. Belinda has picked up her sister Bridgette's obsession, and made it her own. Her jealousy and paranoia will develop into a rage that results in tragedy on New Year's Eve and Khethiwe's world is turned upside down. With all the partying going on, no one notices as Khethiwe sinks to the ground covered in blood. Is she okay? Ajax finds out the hard way that life is not just about endless parties, gigs and girls. Something totally out of the blue and random (or just how random is it?) happens around Easter that threatens to change him forever. And it doesn't end there. This event also impacts on Samuel in a very bad way.
Must-see moment: Senzo goes all out to find out the truth about his biological mother when he stumbles across one of her personal possessions in Sibusiso's bedroom. He’ll do just about anything to prove that he is a Dlomo, even if it means digging up what’s long dead and buried. And when the dust finally settles, another earth-shattering secret is revealed. How will Sibusiso feel when Senzo goes head-to-head with him in the corporate arena? Ntombi, ever the woman of ambition, is too focused on her work to notice that Senzo’s actions may bring discord in her family.
Shockers! Samuel and Palesa's already tenuous relationship is put to the test by a personal tragedy. Will it pull them apart, or cause them to grow closer together? Samuel's sense of duty, and underlying desire for a family, has caused him to make his choice between the women in his life – and a heart is broken.
Generations welcomes... Paul's new toy: an antique typewriter. This purchase is just the start of a chain of events, which puts strain on his and Karabo's relationship. Maybe the penthouse is just getting too small for everyone and maybe it's time to start a new life somewhere else. But who will stay and who will go? And what happens when he gets a taste of Kenneth's life: the power, money and playing God?
Farewell to: Palesa, who realises that the evils of the past will finally catch up with you. Crimes must be punished, no matter who gets hurt, or what the sacrifice...
Villain watch: Dineo's past, long buried and believed forgotten, comes back to haunt her. Her mistakes can’t stay hidden forever. Kenneth's not going to be happy when he finds out what his wife and son have been up to while he was sitting immobile at a care facility.
The Bold and the Beautiful
What you'll see: Brooke Logan's rape in November 2008 will still have a huge impact in 2009. Brooke's dad Stephen hits the roof when he hears of Stephanie's involvement with his daughter's rape and on 27 January he confronts her in her hotel room, and then tries to throw her off the hotel room balcony! The truth of who the real mother of baby Jack drives Taylor back to alcohol and Eric and Donna are still on track with their budding relationship. Taylor will find new love in the arms of a much younger Rick Forrester around April while Nick and Brooke enjoy their new (but short-lived) romance. By end of June Storm Logan will sacrifice his own life to save that of his sister's Katie. The Forrester mansion gets a new madam by mid August and Donna's life is turned upside down by an unexpected visitor in late October.

Must-see moment: Pam is back in town and is out to get Donna, her sister Stephanie's nemesis. In June, Pam plays some nasty pranks on poor Donna, who is about to marry Stephanie's ex, Eric. Among other things, Pam locks Donna in a tanning booth where she gets spayed over and over and over again and comes out looking like an over roasted chicken! Pam also replaces Donna's hair dye and teeth whitener with other very bright colours.

Donna: 'Oh, stop it. Stop. I know you're just trying to make me feel better. But look at me. Look at me. I look like an oompa loompa.’ – to Eric after her hair turns green.
Shockers: It's shoot to kill in the first few months of Bold: Storm accidentally shoots his sister Katie and Pam pretends to shoot Donna with a toy-gun. Then by the end of 2009, the biggest shock is revealed when Donna’s son (yes, her son!) comes to town!
Bold welcomes: There are two new hunks in 2009! One Tree Hill's Texas Battle stars as Donna's lost son whom she gave up for adoption and Owen Knight (played by Days of our Lives actor Brandon Beemer) also makes his appearance to stir things up for Donna. By end of 2009, Beth Logan (Robin Piker) makes a brief visit to Los Angeles.
Farewell to: William deVry, who plays Storm Logan. He commits suicide to save the life of his sister Katie.
Villian watch: There is only one villain in Bold and that's Stephanie and as we know by now: what Stephanie wants she gets, no matter what the cost.
Egoli
Wat le voor: Die einde van Walco is in sig, en dinge gaan nooit weer dieselfde wees na die gebeure in Januarie nie. En maak maar gereed vir 'n aksie-belaaide jaar, aangesien die laaste episode van die oudste sepie in Suid-Afrika op 31 Maart 2010 uitgesaai sal word. Baie storielyne gaan einde se kant toe staan, maar dit beteken nie dat die drama gaan end nie – wag en kyk maar wat met goeie ou Chris gebeur, en wie van die huidige personeel van Walco ’n slinkse plan uitvoer om aan die bopunt van die sake-leer te kom!
Moet-sien-oomblik: Kyk vir oulaas na die Walco-gebou, want ná 22 Januarie sal daar nie meer een wees nie. En op 5 Maart is die web so styf om Jane gespan dat sy dalk nooit weer sal loskom nie. Op 17 Maart kom ’n nuwe onderneming op die been – maar vir hoe lank die onderneming gaan hou, en wie aan die hoof daarvan is, gaan 'n redelike skok wees.
Skokke! Krynauw is die middelpunt om wie die meeste van die drama vroeg in die jaar gaan draai. Die ambisieuse man se plan om Walco oor te neem werp vrugte af in Januarie, maar die gevolge van sy dade gaan 'n hele paar van jou gunsteling-karakters die harnas injaag, of uitmekaar laat spat!
Egoli verwelkom... Vicky Davis as ’n lesbiese lugwaardin, Duncan Johnson en Ian Roberts, terwyl ou bekendes Niek (David Rees) en Sonet (Tiffany Kelly) ook terugkeer.
Tot siens aan: Dis geen geheim dat Jane (Corine du Toit), Scab (Izak Davel) en Cat (Tamarin du Toit) die sepie verlaat nie. Maar hoe hierdie karakters van die skerm verdwyn, en wanneer hulle dit presies doen, is nog ’n goed bewaarde geheim.
Boewe en skurke: Wie gaan Krynauw en Jane se skoene kan volstaan? Die Goudstad se mense se lippe is styf toe, maar Krynauw en Jane gaan ons nog 'n rukkie na ons asems laat snak.
7de Laan
Wat lê voor: Daar is nog 'n lid van Ryno se familie wat gaan sorg vir 'n opskudding in Hillside, en dié keer is dit nie 'n rebelse tienermeisie nie. Isabelle is baie ingenome met die nuwe gas, maar dit lyk asof hy 'n donker geheim het wat sommer vroeg gaan uitkom. Paula se Goue Gedagtes-kalender verkoop goed, en sy is so opgewonde oor haar betaling dat sy al haar geld blaas. Paula beland in die moeilikheid, maar gelukkig is daar 'n ridder op 'n wit perd wat haar uit haar verknorsing gaan help. Dit lyk asof dinge tussen Marko en San-Mari aan die brand is, maar dan doen Diederik iets wat sy neef lelik omkrap. Mandla besluit om eers 'n blaaskans van Alyce te neem, en sy oog val op 'n ander jong dametjie. Die Hillside Times word die slagoffer van 'n internet-bedrogspul, en Neville keer terug om die probleem op te los. Neville mag dalk net weer liefde vind – en nie by Charmaine nie! Flooze (Sorina Erasmus) en neef Gert (Ben Kruger) is ook terug in Hillside, maar vir hoe lank sal afhang van hoe hulle hul gedra. Gaan Altus hierdie jaar kan besluit tussen Clara en Paula? Dawid ontwaak uit sy koma, en wil met alle mag en geweld terugkeer Hillside toe – net die keer is dit Isabelle wat hom ’n les wil leer. Ongelukkig werk dinge nie uit soos sy dit beplan nie, en als ontaard in 'n ramp.
Moet-sien-oomblik: Middel tot laat Februarie trou Jan-Hendrik weer – vir die derde keer – en dit is ’n prentjiemooi dag. Maar gaan sy aanstaande bruid sy vorige twee vroue se skoene kan volstaan?
Skokke! 'n Feeks uit die verlede maak onverwags haar verskyning.
7de Laan verwelkom ... Oom Tim (Marius Weyers) is beslis 'n man met 'n donker geheim, en kykers sal later geskok wees om te sien wie later in sy vrou, Linda (Elsabé Daniel), se slaai gaan krap. Ryk Neethling hou sy lyf op 14 Januarie sepiester, wanneer hy homself speel. Clara (Angelique Gerber) is ook terug, en raai net, sy het Afrikaans op die plaas geleer.
Tot siens: 'n Ou geliefde staatmaker gaan beslis groet – maar wie dit is, en hoe dit gebeur, gaan ons nie nou verklap nie. Maar dit is beslis iemand wat al vir báie lank in die sepie is!
Boewe en skurke: Hierdie jaar is dit beslis die jaar van die vrou, maar wie van die volgende drie gaan die superheks van Hillside word? Maak Sandra Stutterheim dalk weer haar opwagting? Of gaan Isabelle dalk die tiara van superheks steel? Of is dit dalk iemand wat 'n appeltjie of twee te skil het met van jou gunsteling-Hillsiders? Al wat ons kan se, is dat sy lankal reeds beloof het dat sy nie dinge so sal laat vaar nie.
Scandal!
What you'll see in 2009: Daniel's ex-wife Leticia arrives in town and wants a divorce immediately. What will Daniel do since he's been embezzling money from her company? Abigail has been lying low and focusing on restoring her relationship with Tino. She's also promised Tino that she has changed and left her old life behind. Now that Abigail has her son back, she decides it's time to take action and exacts a terrible revenge on someone close to Daniel. It's even too terrible for Shakira to bear. Will it shake their unholy alliance? Daniel, of course, suspects Abigail but she denies it.
Shockers: The NZH board will be shaken up with Daniel at the forefront of the power struggle. Daniel wants a merger with a huge publishing empire. Nadia throws a spanner in the works by dangling a tantalising offer in front of Daniel, which could break solid alliances within NZH and could possibly lead to the ousting of the Martins. How will the Martins fight back? Who will be walking down the aisle in a monsoon wedding? Abigail and Shakira are caught up in a love triangle. Palesa receives a devastating letter from a man in prison that will ultimately change things forever.
Must-see moment of 2009: Daniel commits the ultimate crime and sends Nadia over the edge. The Martins might have more ammunition to get him out the way for good.
Scandal welcomes: Lorcia Cooper (previously from Backstage). She will play Erin Davids, a beautiful, charming sexy young woman who is the creative director of a highly successful label, Polish.
Farewell to: NZH's production manager Nhlanhla as he jets off to New York to study his passion drama. After the initial disappointment of not getting to be NZH's art director, Nhlanhla has been thinking about his future and his true calling in life. He applies to the New York University for a scholarship and gets accepted. Initially he doesn't tell his friends because he doesn't think he will get in. His letter of acceptance arrives when he and Lentswe become an item. Nhlanhla is torn about what he wants and keeps the truth from Lentswe.
Villain watch: Watch out for Daniel as he's pushed to a corner and makes the biggest mistake of his life. See how Abigail almost destroys someone close to Daniel. Shakira is also set to change the course of history while the Khumalos have showdown with a ghost from the past.
Isidingo
What you'll see: There's a battle for supremacy on the Deep as two patriarchs try to build a legacy for their children. Barker is reduced to tears as he clutches a photo of his four-year-old son Jody. Frank's pursuit of the truth goes too far and brings ON!Africa to its knees – not to mention Frank's pursuit of two very eligible women. The Duncan is up for auction and three buyers go up against each other. 2010 soccer fever increases but so does the divide between rich and poor. The Matabanes, Vusi, Georgie and Rajesh all find themselves in hot water and on the verge of losing everything! Look out for two weddings, a baby, and an accidental death later classified as murder!
Must-see moment: You dare not miss the wedding in May – plus two other heart-stopping events happen on the same day.
Shockers! Someone's last will and testament is dug up and it reveals the truth about the real owner of the Strubenlands, on which the Duncan is built and there is a second wedding later this year.
Isidingo welcomes ... Chico (Terrence Bridget) is back! There are also three new faces – a beautiful young Afrikaans girl enters the show as someone who goes against her influential family to expose corruption; Vusi (and the rest of the guys) loses his head this year as another gorgeous woman arrives on the Deep.
Farewell to: Barker's daughter Dineo (Abena Ayivor) is already leaving the soapie this fortnight. There's no word on whether she'll be back again but keep an eye on tvplus!
Villain watch: Farrow is prepared to go to any lengths to get what she wants and she'll even throw her lot in with Barker if it will help her ... Plus the mother of Barker's son Jody returns – watch out for Kimberly.
