The actress made some rather drastic life changes in order to look sickly thin for her new role.

The already skinny Anne Hathaway lost a whopping 25lbs (11,3kgs) for her role as Fantine in the movie adaptation of the musical Les Misrables, in which she’ll be starring opposite hottie Hugh Jackman.

She told Vogue magazine about her emotional, state:

“I had to be obsessive about it — the idea was to look near death.

Looking back on the whole experience — and I don’t judge it in any way — it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who [my character] Fantine is anyway.”

Hathaway goes on to admit that when filming wrapped, she was in “a state of deprivation — physical and emotional.”

She went on a crazy diet – starting with a cleanse, and then only eating dried oatmeal paste. Yuck.

But then again, she was supposed to look starved.

“When I got home, I couldn’t react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed,” she recalls. “It took me weeks till I felt like myself again. ”

Let’s just hope Anne’s acting is as good as her ability to lose weight.
