Kong Roast's Reviews

We (table of 5) ate at Kong Roast last night for the first time. We chose to sit on the roast side. The service was exceptionally poor. Our waitress's knowledge of the menu was an embarrassment.

We went to Kong Roast recently and weren't terribly impressed. The prices are exorbitant, the service poor. We decided to try out the sushi and meat dishes. I was unimpressed by the sushi menu. There are cheaper sushi places out there that have a better (and cheaper) selection. The meat was ordinary. Again there are cheaper places to eat that will give the same quality.

I'm from Durban so when ever I'm up in JHB there's only one place I can think of going to. The Kong dishes are absolutely gob-smacking, especially the pad Thai. The sushi is in a league of its own and the cool, dark ambience of the Kong side of the shop makes spending an evening there an awesome occasion. Being in the restaurant industry I give Kong Roast two big thumbs up! Ciao.

A friend and I decided to try a new restaurant every month from December 2007 - we have not yet made it past Kong Roast. We have just about had everything on the menu and I have never had a bad meal or bad service. Andre is just amazing and attends to his guests with enthusiasm and interest. I have recommended Kong Roast to so many people and they have all come back saying the same thing...Incredible! They in turn take their clients there and it is an awesome domino effect. This restaurant is legendary, you simply have to try it!

I have had sushi at quite a few restaurants in Durban, Knysna, Gauteng and Cape Town, but never have i sampled such fresh and beautifully presented sushi. The service was outstanding which also added to the whole experience.

Went to Kong Roast last night. Found the concept very refreshing and interesting. Loved the funky decor. BUT we were on the Roast side and found the service very poor. Constantly had to ask for service, wine to be topped up, pepper etc. Attention to detail was poor and staff were not attentive. If they get this right and take heed it would have been a perfect evening.

I've been to Kong restaurant possibly 8 times in the last two months. The food is absolutely divine, deco is amazing and the whole concept of two restaurants under one roof is totally refreshing. The vibe is very chic and the restaurant has the most amazing views.Friedly and attentive waitrons, the managers are very hands-on.I'd highly recommend their starter beef skewers and their 'Angry duck'can put most Oriental restaurants to shame.I could describe both dishes as nothing less than a symphony of fragrant flavours to the discerning palate.I'm totally sold on this one-no more restaurant hopping for me!

I have been to Kong Roast restaurant possibly six times in the last 4 weeks. The food is amazing, the deco is to die for and the whole concept of two restaurants under one roof is totally refreshing. The vibe is totally chic and it has the most amazing views. I would recommend their angry duck and starter beef skewers both of which I can describe as nothing less than 'a symphony of fragrant flavours to the palate'!I love restaurant-hopping and discovering new places but I can unashamedly declare that I go to Kong Roast every week!I'm totally sold on this one.

Went to Kong roast in The Buzz shopping centre (Fourways) on Thursday night, we were greeted by a door man who led us upstairs, were we were seated swiftly in the Kong section, decor was amazing, They don't have the hugest menu but it is definitely interesting, we got the prawn skewers and the duck samoosas for starters which arrived 8 minutes after ordering them, which is pretty impressive cause they were pretty full, the duck samoosas are spicy but tasty as hell, served with a plum sauce. The prawn skewers were different to anything I've tasted before, they coated in a coconut pastry too good!! We proceeded to order the salmon and sticky black rice and the Royal beef, lemme just say that the beef was quite possibly the best fillet iI had ever tasted, the salmon and black rice was pretty delicious too, the rice was screaming. All that and 2 cocktails and 1 shot of tequila cost R400 incl tip, so it's pretty pricey, but I feel it's totally worth it for good food and good service.

This place is going to be a major hit. From the elegant bar that serves martini's that make the ladies swoon, reasonably priced and excellent sushi to the 2 (Yes 2) most outstanding menu's that serve up meals that most JHB restuarants don't even come close to. Well done guys.

Great experience ! 2 great and big Menus to choose from (actually 3 with the outstanding Sushi Menu) + excellent food quality and presentation + beautifull atmosphere and a very friendly and efficient service. It is very seldom that we can see a "recently-opened" restaurant with such a high level of quality.

Fabulous restaurant, classy, funky decor, interesting theme east meets west! - caters for all needs. Food is amazing, try the crispy ginger beef or chicken liver parfait for starters, sushi first class, too many nice dishes to mention but don't miss dessert! Staff on the ball, attentive, knowledgeable. An all round great experience! - don't miss the loos!!

Last week I was fortunate enough to be asked to sample dishes from the newly opened kong and roast restaurants, situated in The Buzz Shopping Centre, Fourways. I was blown away by the duo restaurant concept, where you can choose to dine in either the east (kong) or the west (roast). The food is delicious and the cocktail menu sublime! The decor is refreshing and I highly recommend both restaurants for a fabulous night out!

What a superb experience. The decor is funky, the idea of the split between Asian and Western are fresh and the food is to die for. Sushi is best in town, especially the Tempura Prawn california rolls. The service is great and the management and staff are very visible and friendly. Then there is quite a nice ambience.Well done to the owners.
