How the R550 000 Reader's Digest magazine sweepstakes works
1. The Sweepstakes is run by Media 24 – licensee of the Reader's Digest Association Inc., and creator, marketer and distributor of the Reader's Digest Magazine and other magazines ('the Promoter') – under the name The R550 000,00 Reader's Digest Magazine Sweepstakes. The total value of all prizes offered in the 2007 Sweepstakes is R550 000,00.

2. Participants must reply, according to instructions, by deadline date(s) stated in the relevant promotional material.

3. Prizes are awarded after the close of the Sweepstakes. Winners are notified in writing within 30 days of the draw. All taxes are the responsibility of the winners.

4. Prizewinners will be requested to allow their names and photographs to be used in promotional material. Upon written consent the names of the Prizewinners may be published in Reader's Digest Magazine and through any other media chosen by the Promoter.

5. The Sweepstakes is conducted only in the Republic of South Africa and only persons who are resident in the Republic of South Africa may participate in the Sweepstakes.

6. All Sweepstakes entries returned to the Promoter have an equal chance of winning. Entrants may return each entry they receive. They may enter using their own stationery and envelope. There is no entry fee, nothing to pay, nothing they have to buy or promise to buy. Whether they say 'Yes' or 'No' to the accompanying offer, their chances of winning are not affected.

7. The following people are disqualified from entering the Sweepstakes, Thank You Prize Draw, 'Instant Win' Quarterly Prize Draws and Extra Prize Draws: a director, member, partner, employee or agent of or consultant to the Promoter or a spouse, life partner, parent, child, brother, sister, business partner or associate of any of these persons; an entrant under a particular age where in terms of a law, code of conduct or ethics, agreement or rule, such person may not benefit from the Sweepstakes draw; an entrant residing in a country where a lottery of this nature is unlawful.

8. Should an entrant, for any reason, be disqualified, then such entrant shall forfeit any prize drawn.

9. The Sweepstakes is run strictly in accordance with the provisions and regulations of The Lotteries Act (No. 57 of 1997), South Africa and any other applicable legislation.

10. This Sweepstakes is run in conjunction with various product offers sponsored by the Promoter, its affiliates and/or other subsidiaries and for the purposes of promoting the sale or use of their products.

11. Entrants are encouraged to submit a valid ID and telephone number which will make it easier for the Promoter to contact them should they be selected as a winner. Where incorrect or incomplete details have been supplied and the winner cannot be contacted after a reasonable effort has been made, the Promoter reserves the right to re-draw the prize after a 30 day period.

12. The Promoter reserves the right to extend the closing date for entries in the Sweepstakes, as well as the official draw for winners, if necessary.

13. The Thank You Prize Draws, 'Instant Win' Quarterly Prize Draws, Extra Prize Draws and Pre-draw are open by invitation only.

14. The Promoter has made every effort to ensure compliance with the letter and spirit of South African legislation regulating promotional competitions and lotteries.

15. The Prizes offered in this Sweepstakes draw are similar to those offered by the various Promoters since the 1960s and are in no way intended to be in any way similar to goods, services or benefits offered by the National Lottery. Requests for any information about the Sweepstakes, should be addressed in writing, accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope, to: The Promoter, PO Box 1802, Cape Town 8000.

16. These rules may be amended to conform to requirements stipulated in prevailing legislation from time to time. Any amendment of the rules of the Sweepstakes will be published as soon as possible thereafter in Reader's Digest Magazine.
