Hailing from Avignon, France, Cédric is quite the fighter. He has come back from two potentially career-ending injuries to earn his place at the 2010 World Cup. Even better, he has an equally hot younger brother, Johann, who is also a pro goalkeeper.

Age: 24 Position: Defender Gaël had a brush with death early in life after he tore his finger off while climbing over a metal fence. During the operation to reattach it his heart stopped beating. Luckily for him (and us!) doctors were able to restart it and he made a full recovery.

Position: Forward
Despite playing pro since age 17, this is Nicolas’ first trip to the World Cup. This married hottie is father to two sons with his choreographer wife. In 2002 he tried his hand at acting in the French film Le Boulet, He played a role he is quite familiar with—a footballer. We can look forward to seeing more of his handsome face on the big screen as he has said he hopes to do more film work after he retires from football.

Don’t let his good looks fool you, this Frenchman has a reputation for being a bit of a hothead. In 2008 his lost his position as captain of Arsenal after criticizing teammates during an interview; however his strong skills on the field are expected to make him an asset for the French squad in South Africa.

Age: 23 Position: Midfielder
Yoann is one of the babies of the French squad, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming a fan favorite during his time with his club team, Bordeaux. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Gourcuff family – Yoann’s father is a former footballer and his mother was a basketball player.
