People used to queue to watch Jim Carrey's talking butt cheeks on the big screen but sadly, the comedian has had a tough run in recent years. "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "I Love you Phillip Morris" are just two big budget films that barely made bank.
For every R1 Carrey was paid, his films earned an average R65.
Despite being one of the most talented and respected actors in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson's recent films (namely "Soul Man" and "Lakeview Terrace") bombed at the box office.
For every R1 Jackson was paid, his films earned an average R8.59.
Leo has been exploring his serious side in his film choices lately: "The Departed", Blood Diamond" and "Revolutionary Road" are just a few examples. The most successful venture was "Body of Lies" which raked in $115million (R870 million).
For every R1 DiCaprio was paid, his movies earned an average R7.52.
The only actress on the list, Drew has had more luck lately as a producer than as an actress. We spotted her in a supporting role in "He's Just Not That Into You" this year, but the last hit film which Drew headlined was "Lucky You" – and that made $8 million (R60 million) at the box office.
For every R1 Barrymore was paid, her films earned an average R7.43.
Considering his star (and tabloid) power, we're surprised to see Tom Cruise on this list! "Valkyrie" did kind of okay, didn't it? And "Mission Impossible III"? Forbes, are you sure you've got this one right?
For every R1 Cruise was paid, his films earned and an average R7.18.
With his hip-hop career sputtering out, we hoped Ice Cube would find a firm niche in family films like "Are We There Yet?" and "Barbership". Then he decided to star in "The Janky Promoters" and "The Longshots" – and it was downhill from there, with the latter earning a paltry $12 million (R91 million).
For every R1 Ice Cube was paid, his films earned R4.77.
Eddie's entrance on this Forbes list was rather surprising considering he's been in family franchise hits like "Shrek", "Norbit" and "Dreamgirls". But this year's releases, film, "Imagine That" and "Meet Dave" barely made bank.
For every R1 Murphy was paid, his films earned an average R4.43.
Billy Bob Thornton has also had a bad run with films. His 2007 film "Mr. Woodcock" earned only $34 million (R256 million); "The Astronaut Farmer", from the same year, brought in just $11 million (R83 million). In fact, we haven't really seen any hits from the actor since "Monster's Ball" back in 2001.
For every R1 Thornton was paid, his films earned an average R4.
Did you watch "The Ghost" or "I Love you Phillip Morris"? Neither did most of the world, which is why Ewan is the second most overpaid star in Tinseltown. In fact, since "Star Wars", the actor's career has slowly been drifting downhill.
For every R1 McGregor earned in a starring role his films brought in an average R3.75.
He had past success with films like "Elf" and "Starsky & Hutch", but this year was a dud for Will Ferrell. (You know it's true when you have the top spot on a bad Forbes list). Ferrell's flop, "Land of the Lost" cost an estimated $100 million (R755 million) to make but earned just $65 million (R491 million) at box offices worldwide and bumped him into the top spot on Forbes' most overpaid stars.
According to Forbes, for every R1 Ferrell was paid, his films earned an average R3.29.
