Perfect if you live in a townhouse, flat or apartment and don't have access to a garden...
*This project uses Rust-Oleum spray paint to coat the cans. If you prefer the original metal/tin effect, then simply skip Step 3.

You can use any size of can for your herbs or plants, but obviously bigger cans are better.
Wash and dry the cans thoroughly, removing the labels in the process.

Use a large nail and a hammer to put some holes in the bottom of each can for drainage.

Take the cans outdoors to spray and place them on a sheet of newspaper or a dropcloth.
Shake the can well and then hold 30 centimetres away, spraying on a light coat over the entire can.
Spray on a second coat once the first coat has dried.

Place a few stones in the bottom of each can to aid drainage, before placing some potting soil in the bottom of the can.
Make sure to leave plenty of space if you are popping in a seedling rather than seeds.
Lightly press the root ball down into the pot and fill in around with potting soil.
