So last night, I was having dinner with my girl
Lauren when she asked me, "What's the best collection you saw this year?"
Instantly, Clive Rundle sprung to mind. Now, I know you will look at the clothes and think: "But WHO ON EARTH would wear that?! And why would anyone want to be seen looking like that?"
But – and it's taken me three years to reach this point – watching a Clive Rundle show is without a doubt
-
This was, without a doubt, the greatest creation he showed at SA Fashion Week. The mash-up of hardcore/rock elements made me high. And I'm actually a real girly girl who likes floral prints and light, frothy, flowing fabrics. I'm was mesmerised by the beauty. Or rather, I temporarily lost my mind in this man’s insane journey. And, yes, the show was a journey.
-
Then there's this. It's evocative and sexy. I'm not usually a fan of high-waisted anything because it makes everyone's hips look big. But clearly my fashion perspective has changed.
Everything – and I mean EVERYTHING – he sent down the runway was immaculate. His brilliance is undeniable. And I'm hooked.
-
Now onto the more socially acceptable stuff. Craig Jacobs ran with the theme of "Protest" this year. Whilst I'm learning to appreciate over the top fashion, I adore the way he literally spells out the message in his clothes.
-
The prints were intricate and complimented one another wonderfully. It's wearable, pretty and quite sublime overall.
-
Aaah… sheer glamour without the sparkles and sequins a la Elie Saab. Craig Jacobs gave us understated, stunning style for Spring/Summer 2012.
-
Vesselina Pentcheva made us watch Red Riding Hood maturing during her show. Of course, we were hooked from the moment the first model came out – a young girl, skipping down the runway. (This isn't the little girl, obviously. This is my favourite gown from the show.)
-
As the collection progressed, the creations became more intricate, encompassing everything from sheer fabrics to embroidery, oversized bows and hoods in one seamless range.
-
It was a fantastical fairytale.
-
Sigh. Another collection, much like Clive Rundle's, that I adored in spite of myself. Suzaan collaborated with PVC cement and sent concrete-splattered models down the runway. The shoes were caked in the stuff and the clothes were dripping with it.
-
See the bag and top? Both created (or at least moulded with) cement. It's wacky, quirky and yet also strangely alluring.
-
By the time I walked out of the show, the imagery was burned into my mind. Who would have thought cement could be so fascinating?
-
And rounding off this year's fashion hits? Colleen Eitzen with a selection of delectable, fresh, fruity hues…
-
…and little crisp white swimwear with sheer cover-ups which were as light as air.
-
And finally, prints which I would definitely wear for summer picnics. Even though we're heading into winter now, I can't wait for the next season to roll around so I can slip into this baby. (Okay. In my dreams. I don't have this kind of money.)
