It is a tradition for us to have two wedding dresses in my culture as we have a religious ceremony in the morning and the main reception in the afternoon or evening.
I left all the planning and decision making to my mom. I did, however give her a few guidelines. We wanted a whimsical but classy wedding and decided to host it at Camps Bay High school. My ex-boyfriend's mom did the catering and she made our wedding cake as well.

The designer of my main dress was Shahied Samaai who also made my matric dance dress. He was fully booked for the year but agreed to make my dress and postpone his holiday for me as a favour to my mom who attended high school with him.
Our special moments were captured by Naziem Dienie at the best hotel gardens in the world, the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel in Constantia.

We got married on the 16th Dec as it was a public holiday.
The day of the wedding, I overslept and yet, woke up so calm and relaxed; it still did not sink in that in 2 hours’ time I’d be a married woman. I had an amazing make-up artist who transformed me into a beautiful and flawless princess.

My ceremony was planned to start at 10h30 that morning, but I only left my house at 10h30 and arrived a bit late.

We had a breakfast reception after the nikaah (Islamic wedding ceremony) at Rondebosch Islamic Society’s Mosque. We left the Mosque at 12h30 as I had a hair appointment at Partners Hair design in Tokai at 12h45.

While my flower girls were getting dressed, I got my hair done and quickly donned my “afternoon dress”.

I had a one lady do my headgear for the morning as well as the afternoon. Whilst my flower girls were getting ready, the photographer decided to do a “mini photo-shoot” outside of my house.

We left at 14h00 to the gardens where we spent 4 hours on 9 acres of beautiful forestry, capturing the most amazing pictures.

We arrived late for our dinner reception at Camps Bay and as tradition would have it, we left just after sunset to our new home.
