How we met
My groom and I met in high school.

Yes, it is, very cliché, we know.

We had been together 12 years before we got married.

In between high school and the “big world”, I have lived in both the USA and Caribbean, and yet whenever I returned, we were always drawn back to one another.

He is my best friend in the whole world.

How he proposed.
We actually got engaged before a “formal proposal”. We went to visit my parents In Botswana and over Sunday Breakfast, he asked my father for my hand in marriage.

From then on, we were officially “engaged”.

A week before the wedding he took me out for dinner. We took a walk around the lake, practiced our first dance under the stars, after which he then he formally got down on one knee and proposed the traditional way.

We both grew up in Botswana, so when we came across the venue Thaba ya Batswana in Johannesburg we fell in love.

It had all the “bush” feeling and vibe to it, coupled with 5 star service and the convenience of being in Johannesburg. Our guests flew from all over the world. We had 180 guests coming from America, Australia, England, India, Spain, Namibia, Botswana and of course, across South Africa.

As a result of this we turn our wedding “day” into a weekend affair; having a welcome dinner on the Friday night, the Wedding on Saturday and a Sunday Brunch, before leaving on our honeymoon to Mauritius.

We broke with tradition and had the dancing part on the Friday evening, with our first dance and father daughter dance that night.

Family and children are very important to both of us so the whole focus on the wedding was our guests, and trying to make sure they had as much fun as possible.

We had lawn games of croquet, mini cricket and a giant oversized Jenga (hand-made by my dad). The kiddies had their own separate kiddies corner with games and activities, they also found the sweet station later to be a huge treat! For the sweet station we had “Sweet Dreams” Bags made up so guests could fill their bags to take home.

Friedel Knobel played the saxophone for us so beautifully, all the guests commented on how amazing he was.

For the evening portion the photo booth kept guests entertained all night long!

When we eventually did leave, it was under of canopy of sparklers by our guests (these also proved useful in doing some very unique photos later on).

Our colours were Dove Grey and Dark Purple. Image credit: Dream Team Imaging Caption 20: I love bright, jewel-toned colours, but always knew I wanted neutral bridesmaids colours so this was the best choice!

I had always wanted an “outdoor” ceremony for afternoon portion, but the weather gods, however, were not on our side.

The rain did break however, albeit for 15 minutes, so we did manage a “quick” ceremony.
Anyway its considered Good Luck to rain on your Wedding Day so hopefully our marriage will be “showered in blessings”.

Thankfully it stopped raining for about an hour, just enough time to get some beautiful photographs in!
