It was a chilly Sunday morning in May 2009. We went for breakfast to this quant little restaurant on Blouberg beach, Blouberg Café (which has subsequently closed), where we sat next to the fire place and had a lovely breakfast.

I didn’t have a colour scheme in the beginning; everything was decided once the venue was confirmed as it gave us an idea of style we were going for.

made up a file with dividers for each item pertaining to the wedding, e.g. cake, wedding dress, food, entertainment, décor, etc. Any important info I found I put in this file and proved useful later on.

I found a ‘wedding countdown’ in a bridal magazine which was quite handy. I copied it onto an Excel spreadsheet and referred back to it regularly.

I did a lot of my own wedding prep work. The invites, menus, name badges on the table, guest seating arrangement, the gifts, were all done by either myself or with the help of family and friends.

I also had some great suppliers. My Bridesmaids wore Royal Blue Grecian style dresses from Bride & Co., Canal Walk and the décor colours were a light green.

My cake was a gift from my Brother-in-Law, Alfred Henry, a renowned South African Chef. My wedding dress I found at The Wedding Box in Kenilworth after only trying on three dresses. Our DJ was Gary Whiteman from Base Reflex, and our flowers were done by Fiori di Sorento, both preferred suppliers to The Mount Nelson themselves.

It was turning quite suddenly from summer to winter but on Saturday 1 May 2010, we woke up to the sun shining, not a cloud in the sky and there wasn’t a breath of wind. A perfect day!!

I went from home to the salon where I had my hair and make-up done and from there went straight to the hotel where we all got ready in one of the hotels beautiful suites until it was time.

All in all, our wedding was more than we could ever imagine and all thanks to all our wonderful suppliers and of course, The Mount Nelson Hotel itself! Word of advice, good food, music and beautiful photographs are what makes your wedding one to remember! Everything else are just the finer details!
