I met Stephen when he was invited by my older brother to a barbecue at my parents house. Initially I thought he was years older than me by the way he impressed me and my parents with his charming behaviour.

Only later to my surprise I discovered we were the same age. It was love at first sight for both of us. After seeing each other at several social events, I invited him over for Sunday lunch at my parents’ house.

I had everyone confused as for I was the one inviting Stephen and not my brother. That Sunday afternoon our fairytale romance started with a kiss in my parents’ house!

Our first year we were seperated 800km apart from one another. Me in the Northern Cape doing my Physiotherapy community service year and him in Stellenbosch studying.

With the long distance our relationship just grew stronger. After three and a half years he took me to my favourite restaurant Five Flies in Cape Town and afterwards I was spoiled with champagne and desert on Camps Bay beach by candle lights!

Just as I got up to leave, Stephen went on one knee and asked me to marry him! Ten months later we had a fairytale wedding at Nooitgedacht in Stellenbosch.

Everyone we wished to share our special day with was there. I had my black and white polka dots, my pink king proteas and our favourite Melissa’s polka dot cake. A very talented designer also helped me to transform my mom’s wedding gown of 1979 into the most gorgeous wedding gown. The next morning at our family breakfast Stephen announced that we will be leaving for Mauritius...a total surprise for me!

I have never seen Stephen as happy as he was on our wedding day and I know for a fact that on 20 November 2009 he has made me the happiest and luckiest girl ever!
