So, don't know about you but I've always been a little intrigued by Tantric sex. Well, that is, until Sting went spoiled it for everybody by claiming he can come for days or something equally ridiculous.
But as Women24's (esteemed, notorious, clueless – take your pick) Sex Editor, I’ve decided to look into it a bit more closely.
And to share all my findings with you, dear reader, in easy to use bite-size snippets! Yes, I know. We are too kind.
I've gotten most of my information from Kavida Rei's Tantric Sex The Path to Sexual Bliss which you can buy here and Anne Hooper's Kama Sutra Sexual Positions for Him and Her which you can buy here.
So here goes...
What is Tantric Sex?
Although there are many meanings for the word "tantra" it seems that "the way" and "transformation" are the two favourites. Tantra was developed in India (thanks India!) more than 5000 years ago and is all about reaching enlightenment through sexual bliss. The human body should be celebrated and honoured and one should learn to see the light and beauty in everything.
So far so great.
How to get started
Tantric Rituals: In her book Kavida says to start with a ritual, that can be as simple or complicated as you wish. I chose the simple one:
Kneel opposite one another and with your hands in the prayer position in front of your chest.
Look into each other's eyes, softly and bow your heads.
When you come up say "Namaste" which means 'the divine in me recognises the divine in you'.
Try not to laugh. (And if you do, it's okay – it relieves tension and builds closeness.)
Position of the week
Practice the yab yum position:
This works well as a ritual, as an intimate embrace, or in lovemaking when you want to delay orgasm or ejaculation.
The man sits cross-legged (in the lotus, duh!) and the woman sits in his lap, wrapping her legs around his back.
Place your foreheads together so that the centre of your foreheads (your third eye!) touch.
Enjoy feeling connected, safe and loved.
Okay. I promise to try it tonight if you will. Then we'll talk about our findings tomorrow?
Happy holding!
