Those of you who know my work know that I’m an open-minded kind of gal. Especially when it comes to sex. I believe people should do what makes them happy and horny and satisfied as long as they have consent from their partners and they stay away from children and animals.
As the sex editor, I don’t believe in endorsing any specific set of “rules” but I believe it’s time to start flinging some opinions about on a certain matter. Because no-one else is doing it anymore.
We’re on a slippery slope people. At first, it was just the odd porn star or the really kinky stripper with the piercings who shaved their vajayjays. Then the lesbians joined the club. And then the single, sexually emancipated lot. Then came the girlfriends and wives. And now even virgins and grannies are running about without koek-hare!
Try as I might, I cannot in good conscience ignore the undercurrent of misogyny in this practice.
I mean really: pour hot wax on your most sensitive lips and rip it off so that you might look like an eleven year old again? Or a plucked chicken. Or a Barbie doll. Fuck, anything, as long as it’s not a woman.
Because women are dirty. They smell funny “down there” and so they need to wax and douche and use deodorant and feminine wipes (the very term!) and bleach their assholes, suck out their fat and inject plastic into their lips and breasts. And then they’re okay.
For a while at least. Until they begin to get – oh the horror! The horror! – old.
Okay, fair enough, not everyone who believes in genital hair removal hate women. I know more than just a few guys and lesbians who like it for the novelty and who enjoy the silky feel. And of course, a lot of the women who do it aren’t being forced by their partners to have it done.
But then again, a lot of women are.
On the one hand I almost think it makes it easier – because trust me, having to lie down for that particular type of torture without someone forcing you is tough. It takes around 40 minutes and then you can look forward to the bleeding from every pore, the scalding pain and the sensitivity to touch, water and sweat. But hey, on the other hand, I think the guys who insist on this shouldn’t take my word for it, but should “treat” themselves to a sack wax too.
Because if depilation is good for oral sex, as I hear so often hear from the men in our comment boxes, then guys should definitely have their balls and pubes waxed. Aren’t those areas supposed to get attention in a good blowjob?
The last time I checked women didn’t have hair on their labia minora or clitorises. So if you’re stuck in the bush, baby, it might be because you’re doing it wrong.
I’m not saying people shouldn’t wax, pluck, shave or thread if it makes them happy. I’m just saying that it shouldn’t have to be the norm.
