Agony Aunt

QUESTION

Hi there Have recently broken up with a boyfriend of 2 years because of his cheating and lies and found out he had been planning to marry somebody else. I told myself I was going to stay single for as long as I can now just to find myself and all but 2 weeks back I met this guy whilst filling up at the petrol station who I just can't get out of my mind. I like him but my problem is his age, I am 31 now and he is in his early 50s. I like the openness, the maturity, honesty and understanding he

ANSWER

Give yourself some time to recover before you get seriously involved with this other guy. You have been betrayed and you feel vulnerable and broken. Don't let your new relationship start that way. If he's as honest and mature and understanding as you say, he'll understand that you need time to heal.

Can you answer this question?

They say rather a old man's darling than a young man's slave, I married a guy 20 years older than me 2 years ago and I've only had trouble from there on. I know for some it works out, but unfortunately I'm one who does not have a success story on this and based on that my opinion is : RUN!!!!!!!!!

I know a couple with a big age difference. Man much older than woman. As they getting older they have lost interest in each other. The one will still like to do things while the other would like to stay rather home etc. In their case it is not working. Keep in mind what I have mentioned, as when you age your interest changes a lot. I am a man over 50 and would not like to be with a too much younger woman. Max ten years difference. My wife is 9 years younger than me. Although she is very good and loving towards me and we have a super relationship, I still like older woman as they are more mature and sensual. Generally men like younger woman because it makes them feel good about themselves. Those relationships (older man and younger woman) is short and not for a life time. My 2 cents.

I personally think you need some more time, you're so used to having someone around and you feel incomplete without your ex. My advice to you; do not rush. As for the older guy...the age gap is +- 20 years. Yes he has the ability to treat you like a queen but just remember that he has lived his life. Things that you still need to accomplish he done already. He can say "been there done that". There are lots to think about before engaging in a relationship with an older man.

I am dating a man who is 13yrs older than me and I have never been happier, we are very comfortable, we understand each other and most of the time the age difference does not even come into the picture, unless his friends ask me. I am 26yrs old and he is 39yrs old, we have been together for 2yrs going on 3 and should we break up I dont see myself dating a younger man, I would rather go older. They are just more mature and open minded and understanding. My baby daddy is 3yrs younger than me and lets just say I am glad to be out of there so for me its older men all the way.

I dont see any problem in loving an old man but make sure that you really love him for what he is not for what he got.loving an older partner needs honesty, commitment and dedication.do yourself introspection before you declare your love. never ever pretend. if you know that you dont feel comfortable with an older partner please dont start.even if you are tempted by his wealth say no.you will get a suitor of your choice.a relationship full of love, trust, respect and oppeness always succeed. good luck on your decitions.

I really don't feel that age is an issue.
It is how you are both as individuals that counts.
Most of my female siblings and my mom are dating / married to younger guys.
My mom has issues that she is more active and more full of life than her hubby and she is older than him.
I date a guys 12 years younger than me and we are almost on par in terms of energy / activities and interests.
I would get bored with an older guy unless he can keep up with me!
Don't think age, think compatability!

The obvious reason why a younger woman will ever get involved with an older man is money. I am 50 years old and I see them coming a mile away. Sleep once with them and they expect you to pay the rent. His openness, maturity and understanding is not a big enough attraction, stop fooling yourself. Even if the older guys falls for your bullshit you will spend the rest of your life running around cheating, chasing and bonking the younger guys. So don’t loose your self-respect and take Jade’s advice.

Please be very careful for your own sake. I would advise that please give yourself time do not take him as a rebound. Age is very important in the relationship and please find out if you like the same thing. Just take it easy please!!
Diva2409 11/3/2009 2:18:57 PM
@Roy, I can gladly inform you that I pay my own rent, in the years we have been together not once have I ever asked for money from him, what for? I am working I can pay my own way. If anything I spend more money on him than he can ever do with me. And even though I know how much he earns, its not my money I get by with what I have thank you very much. I would NEVER prostitute myself, I was raised by parents who taught me self respect and morals. Thank you very much
Karin 11/3/2009 2:46:04 PM
Just to add to my previous mail, I will never in my life go for an older man again because unlike what Roy think, they don't really have money (they only think they do) and they can not perform in bed!!!!!!!!!!
Samantha Brown 11/3/2009 2:54:27 PM
I speak from exprience, an older man is great and a nice challenge but you soon realize that a older man just needs to boost his ego and feel like he can still catch a young one and get it up and make himself feel like he can still peform in the sack. That is all it's about. They want the young woman, but not what she is going through!! Be carefull someone inevitably get's hurt and it is usually the young girl who get's too attached and becomes puppy dog bouncing at the older man's heels. One day you get under his feet you get kicked in the head.

I have dated a older guy, met him when i was 20 - he was 40, it had it's ups and downs, but i don't think one should really analize the "ages". I still feel, older guys are more mature, but at the end of the day, age shouldn't be a big factor.
PRESHEN GOVENDER 11/3/2009 3:19:01 PM
I love older men.
Whoever said money can not buy you love was shopping in the wrong mall.
and if you need sex you can also buy a dildo
Tinkerbell 11/4/2009 2:21:58 PM
I am datig an older guy, 18 yrs my senior, and I must tell you it makes a big difference. He's got grown up kids and I still want some. He wants to stay at home with a wife who cooks for him and I want us to go out and enjoy life and experience things that he's already done. I love him very much so that is why I am still with him but I do have to compromise alot. Just make sure you dont compromise yourself. Loose your heart, not your head! I think if I did not love him as much as I do, I would possibly not have made the same choices.

i dated a young woman 15 years my junior. she would call me 3 times a day without saying a word and expect me to just assure her i love her. it came to a point where i got irritated and dumped her. The sex is good because she'll do whatever you tell her to do in whatever position but it's not worth it. I dated another lady 10 years younger, everything went well until she developed interest in a younger man 4 years her junior and i let it go until she was treated like dirt by the younger man. Now she's on my back calling me everyday even if she does not state her interest in coming back, i can tell by constant attention she wants from me.Unfortunately i'm no longer interested. I'm dating ladies my age. I'm 47 by the way and going out with a 43 year old lady. i couldn't be happier.
RE27 11/9/2009 1:06:02 PM
Hi Guys! I date a guy that is 27years my sr, and it's been the best 7months of my life! It's a relationship most people dream off! I can't explain the honesty and sincerety, and we are 200% compatable. I don't think it's as much of an age difference that most couple's find hard, but the difference in moral value, dreams and desires, so @ Agony Aunt - go for it!!
joycelene 11/10/2009 12:03:38 PM
rings so true older guys want different things- you want to go wild and he is thinking about his heart. RUN RUN RUN they get boring after a while
lynn 11/19/2009 12:48:44 PM
I was married 15 yrs to a guy 11 yrs older. You just dont want the same out of life. I am now dating a guy 2 yrs younger and there is life and passion. Most older men are so full of BS and baggage and set in their ways. Younger guys are more adabtable and fun

You won't see me dating older guys not at all...I love fun, I dont want someone who's gonna think I'm immature whereas all this time I'm acting my age.I hate to feel pressurised and feel like i'm being cornered.I really dont wanna compromise myself and my happines like that.
jojo 12/11/2009 11:44:43 PM
I am 33 and my boyfriend is 45 and we have had the most wonderfull relationship of 9 yrs. There are no guessing games, waiting for the ph to ring, womanising etc. I have always been attracted to older guys as they know what they want out of life and are more grounded.in the past 9 years we have witnessed divorces and many a break up of the same couples who thought we would not make it :) luckily for me my partner is spontaneous and fit and has forced me to be more active etc...my experience

I say these old perverts need to get a life and stop hitting on younger girls with their cash and false dreams... The younger generation is faster, quicker, smarter and better looking.. so step aside has beens and start looking for the retirement village!!!!
Nicki 2/1/2010 2:21:17 PM
@ Roy - No need to generalise - I am 32 and just recently met a man 2o years older than me - He is by far not a rich man and i - like many other "younger" women out there - pay my own rent and my own way. He is down to earth, a gentleman of note and I would be happy to be with him even if he had nothing - It is definitely a personal choice by both the woman and the man and I am sure we all have our own reasons.
tina 2/1/2010 4:00:11 PM
ok, so no matter what.. old or young.. men are all full of shi1t?
Alan 2/1/2010 10:10:56 PM
I am 50 and I have fallen in love with a 21 year old. I have not told her and I never will. Too big an age gap. I must let go as I think she would be happy with a man closer to her age. It hurts every day to suppress the love but I feel I have no choice.
Diane 2/9/2010 2:00:16 PM
I recently left my fiance (24 years my senior).
At the beginning, it was fantastic. It was novel. We didn't care about the world and what it thought of us.
Well, there will come a point where the age difference will become a problem. I know it's not PC, but you'd do well to stick to someone closer to your age.
If you can trust yourself not to fall in love and get too emotionally attached so quickly after a break up, go ahead, have a fling, enjoy the attention. But you must guard your heart.
GeorGe 2/11/2010 10:15:51 AM
I married a woman of 22 when I was 42 - it all started off like magic. But the big problem is she now thinks she can control me with what's between her legs - our sex life is/has ground to a halt - so, what do I do - i find it somewhere else! The majority of my golfing mates have the same problem - there definitely is something in the wedding cake that makes the hole grow shut. Always a headache or a pain, or too tired. When we were courting - we bonked every day and all over the place - now it is once a year if I'm lucky - What is it with SA women?
andrew 2/13/2010 8:19:07 AM
op soek na jonger dame....ek 43 en sy moet tussen 20 - 35 wees
sharpfille 7/1/2010 4:27:42 PM
What works for dick might not work for harry. One can not deny the age difference effect. Older men have seen the life and most of the things a younger woman wants does not interest them anymore even when they try to keep it young they look ridiculous trying to behave younger. Nearly married a man 13 yrs older than me but with time I discovered we couldnt make a happy couple. He sees my ideas as childish and often told me so. @ 25 and out there on my own I'm not childish. so i had to call it quits and vowed never to date an older man again.
