A recent survey sheds some light on South Africa’s driving stats. Where do you fit in?
So you think you’re a good driver? Excellent even? So do 80 percent of young adults. But guess what… you’re all probably wrong.
Discovery recently did a survey to determine how driver’s rated their driving abilities. Over 114 million kilometers of driver data was analysed, and it was found that eight in 10 of Discovery Insure clients think they are excellent drivers.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, only 10 percent are actually excellent drivers, while 58 percent are moderate and 32 percent totally suck at driving.
Research also suggests that over 75 percent of young adult deaths are caused by car accidents. That’s quite a serious stat…
The same survey also showed that:
• Over 90 percent of young adult drivers are most likely to engage in risky driving behaviour
• The top three risky behaviours are peer-influenced behaviour, late night driving (after 11pm) and speeding
• 60 percent of motor vehicle accidents in the country are preventable as they occur before some form of irresponsible or risky driving behaviour.
What kind of driver are you?
