QUESTION
Hi there. I have only a few items of furniture - building a new life after divorce. I want a homely, inviting atmosphere and like wood, but have no idea where to start to build the look I want. I have 2 chocolate leather brown leather couches, but the rest is a clean slate so to speak. How do I create that homely look? What type of furniture should I buy to work towards this look?
ANSWER
Hi Lorette,
If you're working on a small, limited budget you could start by surfing on your local Gumtree for affordable bargains, or visiting second-hand shops in your area.
You can pick up amazing bargains that only need a little bit of TLC and a coat of two of paint to turn them into treasured pieces.
A visit to the offcuts bin at your local fabric store will provide you with plenty of scraps to cover old dining chairs, make cushions, etc.
And don't forget to visit Women24's decor and DIY sections; as well as www.Home-Dzine.co.za for more budget-friendly home improvement tricks. We have tons of ideas for turning trash into treasure and making your own decor accessories and furniture.
