Once you have decided
on the thickness of your
stripes and the width of the
spaces between them, use a
tape measure to mark these
positions along the wall with
a pencil. Use a spirit level to
create perfectly plumb
vertical lines.
You can also use a laser
level to project vertical lines
over the marks you created in
step 1. Carefully tape along
these lines with masking tape.
Remember to position the tape
along the outside of the area to
be painted.
Tip: In order to prevent the
paint from bleeding under the
masking tape, seal the tape
edges by painting along the
inside edges of the tape with
a paintbrush using the same
colour as the 'background'
colour of the wall – this will
create an effective seal.
Once this is dry you can paint
your stripes.
Paint two coats, or even three
if necessary, and wait until
the paint is almost dry before
peeling off the masking tape.
When peeling the tape, pull it
off slowly and at a sharp angle.
This creates a 'scissor-like
action' through the paint that
will further help to create crisp
edges along the stripes.
