Country Romance
According to Pru Pfuhl, owner of Biggy Best, bedrooms are still dressed in understated luxury with olde worlde details. Lace on pillowcases, handstitched quilts, monograms and delicate embroidery that breathe life into neutral white and cream
cotton bedding adds to character and natural linen remains the favourite for curtaining or blinds.
Invest in an imposing four-poster bed or metal bedstead and
keep the rest of the furnishings subtle and simple. The black
and white palette lends a touch of the English countryside:
romantic, without being exclusively feminine. The look is light
and graceful, neutral, yet all but normal.
Earthy and arty
'The days of a complete bedroom set are over for good
– now we can mix interesting pieces of furniture in an
eclectic combination that piques the interest and creates a feeling of
individuality, creativity and timelessness,' says Chris Weylandt, managing
director for Weylandts. 'We follow the European trends with its clean,
contemporary lines and simple pieces. Colours are derived from nature;
calm and peaceful. Crisp, fresh cotton sheets, soft bedspreads and aged
wood finishes are important in pampering the senses.' Original artwork
and photography finish the look and allow you the opportunity to place
your personal stamp on the interior.
Glitz and glam
According to Elna du Plessis, Senior Textile Buyer for @home, the 70's form the inspiration for this season's bedroom styles. There remains a neutral undertone in linen, with subtle accent colours. 'Furniture lines are clean,' says Liele Roux, furniture buyer for @home. 'We combined '70s disco glam and classic elegance for an eclectic, glamorous look.' A stucco finish on the walls added to the retro effect.
