Franco's Simply Italian
Thanks for the kind words Dee. The food we cook is exactly like my 'mamma' and 'nonna' make.

Cupcake
Highly recommended! A great place for coffee or lunch - great buffet or try the half-baguettes. The carrot cupcake is to die for. Happy atmosphere and setting that will lift your spirits!

Fabulous Moroccan Restaurant (Cape Town)
I've read all the reviews about this restaurant but had to see it for my self. I have to say, some people just get out of bed on the wrong foot. I had the most fantastic experience at Fabulous. The decor was stunning and the fairy lights on the tree outside are a true work of art. On arrival I had the warmest welcome and a carpet ride ;-) which was the perfect way to start the evening. Vici our waiter knew how to answer every question we had and led us to choosing the best wine to accompany our food. The Camembert with hibiscus is heavenly, the mains were as delicious. I had the fillet which was tender in a chocolate sauce and under tones of Pinotage. All I can say is don't judge until you have experienced!
Try it, you'll love it, I did and it was fabulous!

Sevruga
So I returned for a follow up visit at Sevruga for lunch on Wednesday. The food again was awesome, and the service has improved since my last visit. But again the bill was wrong, and the table I booked was given to other diners - fortunately there were other tables available.

The Italian Kitchen
There are hardly any good restaurants found in Tokai, so this restaurant is a diamond in the rough. The food was great!! I had a mushroom risotto that was amazing. The service was great, really efficient. There is such a relaxed atmosphere. There is a special pizza that has a slice of each pizza on the menu, awesome. If you are keen for great Italian comfort food, you must try this restaurant.

Karoo, Cattle and Land
This might be a good restaurant to eat out at, but do not consider ordering a take away from them!
The first time they forgot to give us the sauce for wich we paid R20 and the 2nd time we ordered roast of the day, which came with no potatoes, only the meat!

Kong Roast
Jessica - I don't think you understand how restaurants work. I would be very surprised if you found any quality restaurant which wouldn't insist on a set menu for a large party. It is too much to ask a kitchen to start, send and co-ordinate 12 different starters and mains, particularly if there are any special requests and deliver them to the table at the same time, piping hot and appetising. Ring around a few other places - I think you'll find that most restaurants will want to offer a set menu for a group of 12 as well. But you're right - the staff should be able to explain this to you properly whereas it sounds as if they have just laid down the law to you in an unhelpful manner

Societi Bistro
Absolutely fantastic!!!
One can clearly see that a lot of care goes into every single plate of food. The dishes are extremely creative and project the superior talent in the kitchen.
The restaurant itself has a very relaxing, comfortable and romantic feel to it, which is complimented by excellent service.
Societi is an experience, and certainly rates among the top restaurants in the Cape.
Cafe 1999
I went to this restaurant 6 years ago before I left to go live in London. The food was fantastic - subsequently I have been to some of the best restaurants in London including a few Michelin Star restaurants. After moving back to SA last year I decided to take my GF out for dinner and I am glad to say that this is still one of the best restaurants that I have been to and definitely amongst the top in Durban.

Bi Lo Bistro
I regularly visit BI-LO Bistro and Pub/Ladies Bar. Services is mostly wonderful, with the odd shouting coming from the kitchen (as to be expected from any serious chef I guess). The owner and managers make each customer their responsibility and will pop over for a chat and some recommendations regarding the days best dishes.
Pricing is average, in so much as I have certainly paid a lot more, and normally pay a little less elsewhere.
The food is extremely good and comes in man-sized portions. The baskets and platters are really affordable and good value for money, with my all time favourite being the "Trio Fillet", which consists out of 3 x 150g Fillets, each flambeed and covered in it's own sauce, mango-chilli, mushroom and cheese for example. Served with hot veg and your choice of chips, rice or baked potato and cream cheese.
The setting is brilliantly South African and a must for any Green Kalahari tourist, oryx, ostrich, springbok and emu all grazing in open view whilst you eat.

Banjaara Indian Cuisine
Most pleasant Indian cuisine. Wide selection of traditional Indian meals. Ask for the meals as they are traditionally served rather than hot, medium or mild. This spoils the fine spiciness of the recipe.
