5 Most Wearable Spring Trends

It’s so exciting to see such a variety of spring trends available. Style expert Tracy Gold gives us tips on how to wear them.

There is everything from bright colour to soft pastels, delicate lace to bold geometric prints.

The biggest trend of all is creating a look of your own that represents your personal style. So why are ladies all trying to wear the same trends?

With so much to choose from, select the trends you like, suit your body shape and speak of your personal style rather than fall prey to the fashion victim trap.

Here are tips on how to select trends and make them your own.

1.    Patterned or bold colour trousers

This trend is everywhere offering a variety of prints and colours.  Where before the focus has been on tops and blouses, this season the focus has gone south.  This trend is great for ladies who have fabulous legs and want to put them in the spotlight.  If you want to de-emphasise the top part of your body, wear fabulous floral or colour trousers and a dark solid colour on top.  If your legs are not your best asset, give this trend a miss.

2.    Roaring 20’s drop waist

Inspired by The Great Gatsby, think glitz, glamour and a drop waist.  The drop waist is best suited to ladies who have few curves or are petite.  If you are pretty straight up and down, it’s your time to shine.  If you are well blessed with curves, rather select shapes that suit you better in luxurious fabrics, fringe, beading and 20’s inspired accessories to reflect this trend.

3.    Off the shoulder

Asymmetrical lines with draping, off the shoulder and drop shoulders are hot this season. They are really fun to wear, but the trick is to find a really good strapless bra.  Once armed with one, have fun and try a variety of styles.  If a strapless bra is not a possibility for you, try styles that have asymmetrical necklines, hems and draping to represent this look.

4.    Retro chic

Retro is huge, everything from roaring 20’s, to sophisticated 70’s.  It also reflects the trend of recycle, upcycle and reuse for an eco chic look.  The key is to mix your vintage finds with modern pieces so you don’t look like you’ve just raided your grannies closet.  I have made it my mission to find some great vintage stores.

5.    Flower power

There has been a floral explosion this season; everything from tops, jackets, trousers, shoes, belts and necklaces. You will see a great variety from fine and delicate to bright and bold.  You can mix your florals for an all-out look or add a single item to give your wardrobe a seasonal update.  Anyone can wear this trend, so have fun with it.
